The Coast Guard has been in the Norco area since 1923. The first Coast Guard Station was established in 1923, making the Norco Area one of its earliest locations. In 1951, theNorco Sector was activated and joined with the Stockton Sector. In 1958, both Sectors were combined into a single Sector and continued to be operated as such until 1991 when they were again split into two sectors. In 1992, theNorco Sector was disbanded and all remaining assets were transferred to Stockton Sector. The Norco Area is home to today’s Coast Guard Station (GCOS) which is located at 4381 State Route 1A. The GCOS played an essential role in keeping our coastline safe for millions of people throughout their history and continues this mission today by providing law enforcement assistance when needed, disaster relief during times of crisis, and civil aviation support for local businesses.

Norco, California is a city located in Kern County, California. The population was 606 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield metropolitan area. The Norco Independent School District serves students in pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. The town of Norco was founded on July 20, 1912 by George W. Norris and his wife Florence Crouse Norris. After years of development and improvement from their initial land purchases, the city's first post office opened in 1915 and its first store in 1916. In 1918 the Norris family donated 137 acres (52 ha) to be developed into an agricultural colony known as "Norris Valley". During World War II, Norco was one of twelve cities in Kern County that were designated for intelligence gathering and sabotage activity under Project Signaal ( code name: "Honeymoon"). The city's main square was dedicated to Air Force General Curtis LeMay on November 17, 1945 as Operation Neptune's Spear began within the town limits. A total of 167 individuals were detained or interned here during World War II; many more were incarcerated later without trial or punishment due to lack of evidence. Norco experienced several rapid waves of growth throughout the late 19th century before experiencing a steady decline starting around 1930 until it reached its current level of population only in 1960; however, this decrease did not stop progress being made but simply slowed down slightly due to problems with storage capacity and other factors such as changes in agricultural production methods which impacted both labor costs and prices for goods sold locally In 1853 Mexican settlers arrived at what would become Norco after travelling downriver from Sutter’s Fort on horseback over 100 miles (160 km). Upon arrival they founded a small settlement called Rancho Vegas de la Salinas near present day Fillmore City while looking for land that could be used for agriculture rather than ranching because there was no suitable spot available on Monterey Peninsula where they could settle permanently . Jesuit Father José Altamirano who had been sent by Bishop Francisco Pico to survey these new arrivals wrote about their experiences: “the Mexicans are very good people who have never done anything bad since they came here but have lost all their cattle because they do not know how to drive them across country” However , less than two years later violence broke out between local Indians and settler groups resulting in 300 killed with over 2,000 injured . Governor Burton ordered military forces led by Captain George Armstrong menaced Indian Territory leading to open warfare which ended when Mexico ceded most of Californias east side including Norco back to British Columbia

In 1914, the post office at Norco changed its name to Antioch because of local opposition to the new name change of downtown Oakland. Antioch had been chosen for its Catholic residents and merchants who favored that name over Norco's Protestant-dominated community. In 1941, during World War II when Oakland was under attack by Japanese forces from within and without, many citizens of Antioch joined their compatriots in fighting for the United States against Japan. Upon liberation from Japan in 1945, most locals returned to their homes and businesses inOakland while a few chose to stay and rebuild along with other postwar communities such as San Francisco Bay Area cities such as Berkeley and Hayward. Today’sNorco has grown rapidly due to its location near Interstate 580 between San Francisco and Sacramento; its growing technology industry; and what has become one of Northern California’s most vibrant agricultural valleys - where crops include almonds, tomatoes, appleseed oilseed rape (canola), cottonseed meal (corn), hay/cattle feeder mixtures etc., irrigated by numerous rivers which flow through or border the town - providing plenty of water for farming operations year-round as well as ample rainfall for some 480 acres (200 hectares) of vineyards producing wine made from fruit trees native to this area including Zinfandel grapes from Orinda County near Livermore Valley; Chardonnay from Vallejo County on Highway 1 east of Dublin; Shiraz from Napa County west of Rutherford
