The economy of Norco is based on agriculture, ranching, and tourism. Noroco's history begins with the arrival of European settlers in 1887. Catholic missionaries arrived in 1892 to convert Native Americans to Christianity and start a new life in what was then known as Oregon Country (now El Sobrante County). When they did not succeed, some Czech-speaking settlers decided to move into this area instead. The first settlement at Noroco consisted of 30 people who erected a cabin on the bank of the Sacramento River. This initial group included Czechoslovak immigrants Ján Křížek and František Polek; their son Josef also joined them later that year. By 1893, there were already 450 residents living at Noroco when it became an incorporated town under Spanish rule on October 16th that year with Francisco de la Rúa as its first mayor and Miguel Ayerdi as its first councilman Noroco experienced rapid growth during the Early 20th century due to irrigation projects authorized by Governor Hiram Johnson which increased crop production by up to 50%. However following World War II agricultural production plummeted because demand for food materials soared due to rationing policies adopted by Stalinist Russia Notwithstanding this decline, many businesses continued operations until around 1960 when all but two were closed down due to lack of resources or other reasons including sudden technological advances which made farming more efficient .
