Novato, California is a city in Marin County, California, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Novato sits on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay and is bordered by San Pablo Bay to the south, Richmond to the east and north, and Sonoma County to the west. The City of Novato is located within northern Marin County on historically Native American lands. It began as a small ranch town named North Beach on Point Reyes Peninsula before it became an agricultural center with large citrus crops that supported strong local meatpacking industries.
