The United States Air Force has been providing service to the people of Oakdale for over 60 years. The USAF’s mission is to protect America and its citizens by providing air power for national defense. In that time, the USAF has bestowed many gifts on the town of Oakdale. One of the most notable gift recipients was General Curtis LeMay, who served as Commander in Chief of the USAF from 1951-1953. Upon his retirement, General LeMay donated $5 million to help rebuild Oakdale after a devastating fire destroyed much of the town in 1947. Another gift recipient was Major General Edward J. "Dutch" Smoot Jr., who served as Commanding General of I Bomber Command from 1957-1959 and again from 1966-1968. He donated $10 million to help fund technological advances within I Bomber Command, which would later lead to more successful bombing campaigns during the Vietnam War. In addition to these prestigious gifts, local businesses have also received funds under various programs administered by The USAF stationed at nearby Edwards Air Force Base. For example, The Pentagon Store Cooperative store in downtown Oakdalereceived a grant worth $15,000 in 2006 in order to improve their security measures and provide additional shopping options for residents and visitors alike. Additionally, The Military Exchange Complex located across Interstate 5 from downtownOakdalereceived a grant worth $25,000 in 2009 in order to modernize their facility and provide better services for members of the military community living adjacent thereto. 4th generation owner/operator extraordinaire – Diamond Joe's BBQ! The population of Oakdale was only 100 people when it was platted. By 1907, the population had grown to 1,500 people and grew rapidly as new farms were developed in the area around the school and store. In 1922, Oakdale became an incorporated town with a population of 3,000 people. Today, Oakdale has a population of over 10,000 residents who live in various subdivisions across two townships: Glassell Park and Irvington Heights.

Oakdale is a city in Fresno County, California. The population was 36,539 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Fresno County and the second-most populous city in California after Los Angeles. The area now known as Oakdale was first inhabited by the Ohlone people before being traded by Spanish settlers to Mission San Antonio de Bexar in 1769. In 1849, it became part of Alameda County when Contra Costa and Santa Clara Counties were carved out of California. In 1855, Oakdale became an incorporated town with a population of 2,000; it had been a hamlet since 1824. The townsite was given to John Sutter by his former employer, Daniel Webster Faragher. Sutter founded the City of Sacramento on land granted him by Governor Manuel Crespo for his new mission settlement at Placerville in 1846–47. When he died in 1850, his wife claimed title to the town site from him but eventually sold it back to Faragher's heirs. In 1901, Oakdale voters adopted an ordinance designating May Day as National Labor Day; this date has been observed every year since then as National Workers' holiday. On October 15th of each year (since 1907), Oakdale celebrates its centennial anniversary with ceremonies including an open house and parade through downtown streets that culminates with a dinner at the old Masonic lodge building on First Street NE."
