There are also several dozen restaurants scattered throughout downtown along with several banks and other businesses located on Main Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue.

Oakley is a small town in Kern County, California, located about 10 miles east of Bakersfield. It was founded in 1887 by John and Emma Oakley and their family. The first post office was established in 1888. Oakley is named after the oak tree on their farm which they used as a pioneer focal point for trade and commerce. The Oakleys were the first to live in the area that now makes up the town. In 1915, they erected the first schoolhouse in what is now downtown Oakley. Oakley has experienced many changes throughout its history. It was annexed by Bakersfield in 1922, becoming one of its most populous communities. In 1942, it became an important wartime base for United States forces during World War II when it served as headquarters for Air Force Base Lompoc before being transferred to Kern County upon its creation within Kern County. It also saw growth following World War II as businesses opened up around the base and new housing began to be built along Highway 395 near Interstate 5 (the old routing of I-5). However, much of this activity ceased following the end of World War II andOakley's population declined until it reached its current level of just over 100 residents in 1990. Today, Downtown OakLEY retains much of its early commercial heritage with a variety of retailers including: JCPenney; Safeway; Piggly Wiggly; Dunkin' Donuts; Chick-fil-A; KFC ; Subway sandwich shop ; Miller Brewing Company ; Golden Corral restaurant ; etc.; but more recent development includes several high-rise buildings housing various types of businesses such as hotels/motels/casinos/light industrial uses . The downtown district also features several parks - Garden Park Recreation Center complex contains central lawn with basketball courts , tennis courts , inline skating rink & MOBAs (multiuse boards), city hall building which houses community center & library services & fire station adjacent thereto . Other notable attractions are nearby state prisons – Menard Correctional Facility (northwest)Visalia Rancheria State Prison (southwest) & Pelican Creek Open Space Preserve located between them
