In 1969, Drury Paper Company moved its operations from New York City to downtown Oakley before going out of business several years later citing environmental concerns about paper production near Yosemite National Park (). After some debate over whether or not to keep the company open (), local citizens rallied together and successfully lobbied for their relocation across Oakland County into new buildings on Telegraph Avenue () that are still operational today ().
