Oakley, California is a small city located in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. It is bordered by Simi Valley to the north and east, Lancaster to the south and west, and San Bernardino to the northwest. The population was 54,813 at the 2010 census. Oakley is part of the Greater Los Angeles area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Oakley were Spanish Missionaries in 1769. They named it Rancho San Pedro de Atascosa after Padre Pico's ranch on top of Mount Atascosa in Santa Clarita County. A post office called Rancho San Pedro de Atascosa was established in 1887, and remained in operation until 1959. Beginning around 1850, oak trees were being grown for lumber in what is now Oakley. By 1860 about 50% of all oak trees had been harvested hereabouts. The town site was platted on December 12, 1872 by Wm Sibley from land grant given him by Governor Manuel Michelino y Costilla pursuant to Act No. 36 of 1870 (better known as “The General Accounting Office bill”). According to oral history gathered by Jody Ebert during her research for an upcoming documentary film about Oakleys founding entitled "", Sibley had originally planned on naming his new community after his father-in-law - former Ulysses S Grant Chief Justice - but changed his mind when he realized that would have caused confusion with nearby towns such as Fillmore and Woodland Hills which also bore that name.. The first post office was called "Atascosa" until 1888 when it changed its name to "Oakley". The current building was built in 1909 adjacent to a sawmill which operated until 1951; this mill once employed over 1,000 men including many who later founded Vernon Hills Homes subdivision thereabouts On March 5th 1916 Cora Bogan married John Fenton (1863-1941) at Our Lady Of Angels Catholic church just north of town center; they are buried there along with their two children Ella Mae (b 1911) and John Anthony (b 1913).John Fenton ran a general store open from 1914-'16 before moving into real estate development . He also served as Mayor from 1926-'29 & 1930-'32 .. Cora Bogan died suddenly on October 3rd 1921 while out shopping at Weenie's department store near downtown; she paralysis/stroke may have been caused by eating too much ice cream .. her husband never recovered fully from that attack .. they are both interred at Poway Memorial Park Cemetery together with their four children

Oakley is a town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1888 by John Fiske and his family. Oakley is located on the San Joaquin River near Bakersfield. The town of Oakley was laid out in 1887 by John Fiske and his brother-in-law Hiram Cobb Burnett as part of a larger land grant to him from Governor Manuel Antonio Menéndez de Cámpora. At first it consisted only of a few huts, but over time it grew into a small but thriving community with many businesses and residences. One of the most important buildings in Oakley's history was the original courthouse which served as both its government center and courtroom for many years until it burned down in 1961. The current courthouse was built in 1974 following a fire that destroyed the old building. In 1892, John Fiske married Emma Maynard and soon began construction on what would become one of Rancho San Pablo's most famous assets – an enormous dairy farm now known as "FISKE GRAIN". This property would eventually be divided among several families including Fiske himself, his son William Akeley, daughter Lillie Akeley Goulding and her husband Harry Goulding; Mary Lyon Howe; Augustus Woodward Beale; Jameson Beale (renowned cattleman); Jens Jensen; Arvid Olson (founder of Dole Food Company). The milk production on this farm would continue until 1957 when it became pasteurized for the first time. In addition to their successful dairy farming career, Mrs. Fiske also became very involved with local politics serving as mayor from 1911 to 1913 and 1917 to 1919 before she died suddenly at the age of 58 years old. Mr .FISKE II continued to operate his ranch until his death in 1936 after which control passed through various hands until finally being sold off to ranchers Clifford Duke Rochella et al who operated it until 1983 when it again came under public ownership through Measure R-5%. Today Oakleys' iconic Dairy Barn still stands untouched within its boundaries - evidence that even today some people feel an inexplicable tie to this place called "The Hills".
