One of the earliest handguns in Oceanside was a revolver built by George Ransom and Company in 1892. The company was started by two men who had worked together at an armory in Cincinnati, Ohio. The first revolver manufactured by George Ransom and Company was called the Paulding Revolver. It consisted of a single-action trigger with a knuckle-trigger safety system. The revolver was designed to be used with either .44 caliber or .45 calibers of ammunition. The .44 caliber version was known as the “Old west” model and it featured walnut stocks and buttstocks. The .45 caliber version was called the “New England” model and it featured maple stocks and buttstocks. Both models were powered by six-round cylinders that fired using percussion caps that exploded upon impact against anvils located on each side of the barrel. These guns were very successful, being sold both nationally and internationally until around 1915 when they began to be replaced by more modern designs. Over time, different manufacturers produced different types of handguns in Oceanside. One such manufacturer was Brown & Thompson which produced pistols made from 1903 through 1945 inclusive. Oceanside is a city in San Diego County, California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 362,717. It is part of the San Diego-Tijuana metropolitan area. The city was founded on December 12, 1911 by businessman and politician George Hearn with backing from local citrus growers and businessmen. Oceanside has been called "the Gateway to San Diego". The first Europeans to see Oceanside were Spanish sailors who anchored off its coast in 1542 while exploring what would become California. In 1821 Ulysses S. Grant visited the town while on his way to fight Mexico and wrote about it in his memoirs: "It will be recollected that I passed through this place shortly after Commodore Perry's army had destroyed Mission Dolores." In 1853 Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered all American citizens in Baja California to leave for fear of an insurrectionary war against Mexico if they did not convert to Catholicism. Many people decided to stay and started a small town around them known as "La Jolla". When Californio troops arrived during the Mexican-American War in 1846, most of La Jolla deserted but some decided to stay because there was no other place they could go. On December 12, 1911 George Hearn organized a meeting at the old hotel near downtown Oceanside with local citrus growers and businessmen for the purpose of creating a new city charter which would allow him control over all aspects of municipal life including taxation and firefighting; he also became Mayor pro tempore (vice mayor). The name chosen for the newly founded city – Ocean City – derived from an incident where one man accidentally dropped overboard an anchor chain full of salt water making nearby Point Conception ("Laguna" today) sound like Imported Watery Fishes (OCT1VP+). At first few hundred people met at various locations around town before choosing their final homes on Christmas Eve of 1911. The first permanent residents moved into their houses on January 1st 1912 when gasoline began flowing available from batteries stored behind store fronts along First Street (now Business Avenue). By 1913 there were over 2,000 families living in Ocean City proper; within two years it had outgrown La Jolla so much that Hearn authorized annexation into La Jolla resulting in more than $500,000 worth of property acquisition expenditures alone between 1912-15! This rapid growth led Hearn eventually sell his share interest in Ocean Cityto real estate developer Harry Chandler for $1 million cash on July 1st 1916 just one year after incorporation! Although originally intended as another bedroom community for Greater Los Angeles during World War I (& later El Cajon), rapidly increasing housing prices & traffic congestion caused many businesses owners & citizens alike To move away or close shop early during those years leading up until 1945 when then Mayor Don Armstrong initiated comprehensive reclamation/improvement plans which included demolishing/replacing many defunct buildings along First Street (& Boulevard) with brand new Frank Lloyd Wright designed architecture featuring high rise buildings overlooking ocean views... however business failure & lack o funds doomed many ambitious plans before they even got off the ground… finally resurrected by current Mayor Jerry Enright since 1985 thru grant funding received thru Measure V... Today truly Ocean City exists thanks to great leadership by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s wife Cathie
The first Europeans to visit Oceanside were Spanish explorers in 1769. In 1821, the United States acquired control of California from Mexico and founded San Diego County as part of its new territory. The town of Oceanside was founded on a small saltpeter mine in 1857 by Nicholas Long and his brother John Long, two investors from New York City. The towns growth was due to its location at the mouth of the Otay River, which offered easy access to goods shipped down the Pacific Coast Highway. In 1916, Oceanside became an incorporated city with a population of over 100 people. It was one of the few California cities that did not become a state capital until it was added in 1922. In 1932, when the State Department decided to move its headquarters from Sacramento to San Diego, Oceanside became one of seven cities in California chosen for this purpose. The city's rapidly growing economy made it an important center for trade and business during World War II. In 1984, after twenty years as mayor of Oceanside, Mayor Arturo Fuentes resigned because he felt he had been out-maneuvered by then-mayor Dianne Feinstein (D). Fuentes' successor Rudy Giuliani (R) appointedFuentes's wife Patricia as his replacement; she served until 1992 when she died suddenly after giving birth to their only child. Giuliani later served as Mayor of New York City from 1993 to 2001 before becoming US President George W Bush's Vice President in 2002 and 2004.
