Polk and his wife Lucy to the city of Oceanside by Mayor John Wetherbee on December 13th, 1851. The Constitution served as a training and harborage vessel for local sailors until she was decommissioned in 1865. The USS Olympia (1912-1941) arrived in San Diego Bay on October 21st, 1912. She was donated by Captain Alonzo L. Ewing to the city of Oceanside on November 10th, 1912. The Olympia served as a naval hospital ship from 1916-1941 and was used for both transportation and storage of military supplies and equipment during World War II. USS Midway (4th Fleet flagship) arrived at Naval Base Point Loma on September 9th, 1940 following her deployment from Pearl Harbor during World War II. She was initially used as an amphibious transport ship before being converted into a fleet flagship in 1945 when Japan surrendered unconditionally at Tokyo Bay . USS Enterprise (CVN 65) first came to San Diego Bay in 1944 as part of Task Unit #14 UNITED STATES 7TH Fleet's operations off Leyte Gulf Philippines ahead of Operation Coronet/Endurance which aimed to escort American forces ashore after the fall of Manila Philippines . On December 12th USS Enterprise collided with Japanese fishing Vessel Ise Maru while transiting through the Channel between Japan and Taiwan On January 2nd 1945 USS Enterprise departed Leyte Gulf Philippines en route back to United States waters after engaging Japanese aircraft carrier Shinkaku during its return trip from Lingayen Gulf Philippines

Oceanside is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 48,587 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southeastern coast of San Diego and shares borders with Carlsbad to the north, Encinitas to the east, and Sorrento Valley to the south. The first Europeans to explore what is now Oceanside were Spanish Franciscans who arrived in 1769. They named it Anacapa after their anchorage off Anacapa Island in San Miguel Bay. In 1821, when Mexico gained independence from Spain, they renamed it San Diego and added an "s" to Oceanside's name following recommendations of Commodore George Vancouver. In 1853–1854, while still part of Mexican Baja California Province (now Orange County), Ocean City developed as a small seaport on the mouth of Laguna Channel between Point Loma and Shelter Cove on Anacapa Island. Merchants built wharves and stores along Laguna Channel's commercial waterfront until about 1870 when conditions deteriorated enough for military defense against attempts by Mexico warships to open passage through that channel into British Columbia during its War for Independence (1846-48). A new town site was selected inland near present-day downtown ocean view before development began earnestly about 1880 as all land west of Indian School Street became available for farming within three years after adobe construction began there by farmers from Rancho Santa Ana in that area adjacent to today's University Heights neighborhood west of Iñigo Hills Road northeast of Broadway Avenue Today’s downtown ocean view spot was selected because it lay undeveloped at high tide; low tide exposed sand dunes which would later be covered by building Lots 1-6 miles long with houses 0-10 stories tall “On Top” lots – bounded by First Street NW., Second Street NE., Third Street SE., Drury Lane SW., US 101W bisecting Lots 7 & 8E includingPrime Meridian Ave/Marina Blvd.–a public park now covers much or all of this shoreline The original town had a Population density over 200 people per square mile but only around 100 people lived in Downtown Ocean view today until 2002 when some residents moved out into newer areas such as University Heights nearby . By 2002 almost all old growth trees had been removed so Today an almost vacant lot line up just opposite West First St./Island View Drkt from where you can see most if not all current buildings oldest being One World Trade Center which opened in 1951 Another landmark destruction also took place Hurricane Katrina caused extensive damage though most buildings remained standing although many lost roofs however many have been replaced or updated since then including One World Trade Center which has since reopened fully restored having significant renovations completed recently

During Sailors’ Day events, each ship’s company presents a basket with various items including clothing, food, cigarettes and booze. These baskets are then passed down through the fleet until they reach an individual sailor or captain. This event is also used as an opportunity for sailors to exchange information about their shipmates and share experiences from deployments around the world.

On January 27, 1861, the first organized American military forces were deployed to what is now Oceanside. The small town was then part of San Diego County. California's admission into the United States in 1848 resulted in an increase in population and development in the area around present-day Oceanside. In 1868, a lighthouse was built on Belle Isle in La Jolla Cove to help protect shipping from pirates. The light still flashes today as a warning to sailors travelling along the coast of Southern California. In 1865, Commodore George Dewey captained USS "California" while she took part in the Mexican-American War off Los Angeles Harbor. Dewey's ship had been damaged by a pirate attack and he needed a replacement as fast as possible. He found that there were not many available vessels so he sent his captain ashore with orders to find someone who could build him a new vessel at least 25 feet long and 10 feet wide which would be able to travel up San Diego Bay. A man who lived near by named John Sutter replied and offered to do just that! USS "California" was finally completed on July 1, 1865 and became one of America's favorite warships due her size and capabilities for ocean voyages. She served during several wars including the Spanish-American War (1898) and World War I (1914). After serving her time she decommissioned on February 17, 1922 and served as an exhibit at Washington Navy Yard until being scrapped in 1970. The town of Oceanside began its growth when residents newcomers started moving into what is now downtown on First Street between Park Avenue northward from Broadway Boulevard eastward where business activity took place primarily for sailors involved with USCG services out of Dock 2 or their families trying to make ends meet; later it evolved into commercial activities such as groceries, hardware stores etc., but most importantly it grew socially because people brought their children over here for school purposes; eventually they turned their homes into makeshift schools known today as Seaside Elementary School Building number three located at Second Street/Broadway between Ocean Boulevard/Park Avenueand First Street
