A decade later, The Coffee House transitioned into K&B Coffee & Tea (later known as Starbucks). In 1975, K&B merged with two other stores to form Peet's Coffee & Tea Company (now Starbucks). The early days at Peet's were filled with excitement and adventure – from opening day until the last cup of joe was served! Over time, however, it became clear that running a successful coffee business required more than just good beans and service: it also had to be profitable. So in 1992, Peet's changed its name to Darjeeling Limited Partnership (DLP) – one of the most famous coffee companies in the world! In 1879 it became Orinda when part of Rancho Seco passed from direct control to the United States government through Treaty 8 (1879). The town name comes from Orinda Creek which flows through it. Orinda grew rapidly during World War II due to its strategic location near Kaiser Wilhelmstrasse and other military installations. Today, Orinda is a bedroom community for south Bay Area residents with few services available outside of its borders. Orinda has two elementary schools and one high school; all three areAmherst-based private schools. One notable resident is Apple co-founder Steve Jobs who attended nearby Amherst High School before starting his own company in 1976. However, during the late 21st century, Orinda has begun to experience significant revitalization as a result of various economic opportunities and growing industry in nearby cities such as Pleasanton and Walnut Creek. These developments have helped to spur economic growth within Orinda and has helped make it one of Central California's fastest-growing municipalities since 2000.

It is the second largest city in San Joaquin County after Fresno and the eighth largest city east of the Mississippi River. Orinda's location on the banks of the Sacramento River makes it an important transportation center. The city was founded by John C. Fremont in 1847 as a wagon town along the new route from Sacramento to Stockton. In 1873, Orinda became part of what was then known as Midland District and organized as a town under the name of Fremont in 1875. In 1912, Orinda became an independent city when it joined San Joaquin County. On July 15, 1936, Orinda merged with other cities within San Joaquin County to form what is now known as Silicon Valley Regional Airport Authority (SVRA). The airport today continues to be operated by SVRA as its only public service facility outside of Greater Los Angeles Area
