On May 25th 1863, Constitution reached Norfolk Va., decommissioned and put into storage there until being reactivated from reserve status on October 1st 1898 under command by Rear Admiral John Wainwright in support of World War I sailing from Newport News Va., via Charleston S C., Mobile Ala., Jacksonville Fla., Havana Cuba and finally Liverpool England arrived November 9th 1914 having made an average voyage of 34 days and 5 hours making 7 round trips including 2 transatlantic crossings totaling 106 daylight voyages USS Constitution is preserved today at Mare Island National Historic Site

Today's Orinda was founded on December 15, 1868 by James Wolkentin with his family from Australia as part of Mission Santa Clara de la Cañada de Borrego which was established for converting Native Americans living along the Peninsular Coast into Christianity. The town site was chosen because it had good soil and plentiful water resources. Wolkentin named his community after José or Josephine Arguello y Zúñiga a Spanish nobleman who had carried out important missions in California during that time period including helping to establish Monterey Bay as an American base of operations. In 1871 Wolkentin donated land near present-day Third Street and Interstate 880 for a public school; this became one of Contra Costa County's earliest schools when it opened in 1873. By 1880 there were over 100 residents in Orinda with most coming from British Columbia or Canada East. The early years of Orinda were difficult due to periodic floods that destroyed homes and killed many people within minutes of being hit by rising waters caused by heavy rains upstream from where they lived. One result of these floods was that Wolkentin decided that all new buildings would be designed without walls so that flooding could not destroy them; this helped make Orinda one of Northern California's earliest "open" cities where anything went - even architecture! After many years of hard work (and some very high financial losses) Wolkentin finally achieved stability and prosperity thanks largely to his invention -the wickerwork barrel! This old-fashioned type barrel became so successful that he started selling barrels door-to-door throughout Northern California until his death in 1907 at age 80."
