The United States Army first entered World War I in 1917, and the Oroville Battalion was among the earliest units to be mobilized. The battalion served throughout the war, including in France and Belgium. The battalion was awarded several medals, including a Purple Heart. In 1919, the battalion was disbanded and its members were transferred to other units. However, the battalion's history remains relevant to today's military. In 1984, the United States Army recognized the Centennial of Oroville Battalion with a Special Recognition Award. That year, the battalion's Former Members organization initiated a campaign to remember all of those who served in Oroville during World War I as well as World War II. The campaign culminated in an event honoring all of Oroville Battalion members who had died since 1984 and also honoring those who had served in past battalions within the U.S. Army Reserve Forces. From 1984-2013, there were more than 350 remembrance events held statewide across America honoring service members from both world wars and post-9/11 conflicts.

Oroville, California is a small city located in the Northern region of California. It has an population of just over 10,000 residents and is the seat of Sonoma County. The city was founded in 1864 by two brothers, George and John Oroville. The area that now makes up Oroville was first inhabited by Native Americans who hunted game and gathered plants and fruits. In 1849, miners arrived in what is now Oroville to find gold nearby. Mining operations continued until the early 1800s when construction began on the Central Pacific Railroad. The town's rapid growth during this time led to problems with water availability and sewagetreatment facilities were built at a later date. Oroville, California is an American city located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 68,733 at the 2010 census. Oroville is named after General George C. Smith and his army's march through the area in 1849 during their attempt to push the Mexican forces out of central valley. The town was first established as a cattle ranch by George Fenton and others in 1874. It became an agricultural center with timber production becoming important during World War II due to the nearby forests that were used for military training purposes. In 1968, Oroville began serving as a community college town when it merged with Stanislaus County Community College to form Stanislaus Valley University. The university grew rapidly over the next few decades until it merged with Davis–Monthan Naval Air Station on October 1, 2014 to become Davis-Monthan Marine Corps Base (DMMB). On January 8, 2018, DMMB announced that it would be moving from its current location on Edwards Air Force Base eastward into former Munson Gravel Mine property adjacent to Highway 99 within the borders of Oroville proper and establish new headquarters there – effectively terminating any remaining civilian support for DMMB at AFBEdwards. As part of this move, many jobs will be lost at AFBEdwards as well; however, some employees may find new positions at NMBCorpus or other local businesses which will benefit from access to government funding that has been redirected from AFBEdwards since then[1]. This article provides a brief history of Oroville and what happened there between 1849 and 2018.[2] It also looks at how this city has been affected by recent events such as the closure of Edwards AFB and plans for DMMB's move to Eastwood City while still providing services to residents near Airport Boulevard/Highway 99. In 1849 General George C. Smith's army invaded Mexico in order to push them out of central valley following their successful victory against Mexican troops earlier that year. General Smith's march passed through Oroville on their way south before stopping in what is now downtown[3]. This small settlement quickly grew thanks to its proximity to resources such as lumber and agriculture[4]. By 1870 Oroville had become one of California's most significant agricultural centers with timber production becoming especially important during World War II due to nearby forests used for military training purposes[5]. Additionally, dairy farming became increasingly popular throughout the 20th century due largely to increased demand from milk products exported abroad[6]. However, economic downturns throughout much of this century ledto a decrease in dairy production statewide[7], particularly within Oroville itself[8]. In 1968 OroVILLE began serving as Stanislaus County Community College town when it merged with Santa Clara County CC via consolidation after both institutions had achieved nearly simultaneous enrollments totaling 2 million students across eight campuses [9][10][11], concurrent with growth at nearby Davis-Monthan Naval Air Station which had acquired land adjoining Munson Gravel Mine just east of Highway 99 [12][13] The closure of Edwards AFB in 2016 led Tooele County CC (then known as US Army Garrison Tooele) assumption responsibility for all DOD facilities within its jurisdiction including DSMCbase (now called MCAS Iwakuni) which included HQDAVSBase & 3 other units: LdrGarrison ComdrForLogistics(HQLOG), AirmenSuptAir Defense&Technology(AESTDT), MgrInfrastructure& Facilities(MIF&F), SptOps Commander Specialty Troops Command(SOTC) & 4 otherunits: LdrGarrison ComdrForLogistics(HQLOG), AirmenSuptAir Defense&Technology(AESTDT), MgrInfrastructure& Facilities(MIF&F), SptOps Commander Specialty Troops Command(SOTC)) effective September 25th 2016[/14] This action by Headquarters United States Army Europe removed almost all civilians living within 10 miles radius OF DSMCbase & closed down all but 5%of DOD functions worldwide - affecting more than 1 million people—a stunning loss given that only about 500 soldiers were assigned permanently TO DSMCbase [15][16] Priorities shifted towards equipment storage & reconstruction at OROVILLE wherevarious active duty commands were simultaneously conducting operations myriad activities utilizing DoD facilitiesMobilizing additional personnelFOR joint campaigns dozens OF times per week — making DMAB one large command operating theater daily! Oroville is a city in Stanislaus County, California, United States. The population was 25,898 at the 2010 census. Oroville has been inhabited by Mono people for over 10,000 years. The first white man to come to the area was John C. Frémont in 1842 and he named it after his brother-in-law who died in an accident near here. In 1851, prospectors discovered gold near Oroville and soon there were placer mines and smelters operating here. Mining declined in the mid-19th century because of competition from new technologies; however, oil exploration began nearby in the 1930s and production increased until World War II when it decreased as a result of enemy bombings. The city's growth slowed during the postwar period as jobs moved away; however, with increasing development around it (including some housing developments) Oroville regained its popularity as a destination for tourists and businesses alike.
