The first marines were stationed in Oroville, California in 1877. They served until 1881. From then until World War II, the marine Corps was headquartered at Camp Pendleton, California.
Oroville, California is a city in Northern California and the county seat of Kern County. Oroville was founded on November 12, 1848 by James Irvine and his brother-in-law, George C. Clemens. The city was named for José Joaquín Orozco y Borrego, who had come to the area in 1847 looking for land to establish a mission. The town site was chosen because it was within range of both the Siskiyou Mountains and the Sacramento River. In 1862, when Southern Californians began moving into what is now Kern County, they brought their cattle with them and began grazing on the millions of acres of rolling rancho land that lay between Siskiyou Mountains and Sacramento River. In 1868, part of this land became known as Rancho San Bernardino de la Galta; in 1870 it became Rancho Los Alamos de las Vegas; in 1872 it became Rancho San Fernando de Bakersfield; in 1886 it became Rancho Niguel de Atascosa; and finally, in 1912 it became Rancho Oroville (the name given to it by its founder). The first settlers arrived at different times but all agreed that there would be a town here somewhere: James Irvine built his first house in October 1848 while George C. Clemens set up shop nearby soon afterwards. By 1850 there were over 100 people living hereabouts – many of them miners who had started coming down from Las Vegas Valley to work on the new goldfields being opened up near Nome (now Kodiak) Alaska Territory. From May through September 1860 more than 30% of all exports going out of Northern California were transported via wagon train from Oroville along Route 66 to Stockton via Chico and Fresno before being shipped back downriver to ports such as Yuma or Sacramento City (and then on across country aboard American expresses)). Oroville’s history goes back even further than these early days though – locals remember taking their dog for a walk one day around AD 1000 when stray dogs started showing up hereabouts! And so we have Dog Park located directly east off US 395 just south of downtown which has been open since 1978!

For example, Lance Corporal Justin Frazier from Okinawa experienced life under Japanese occupation while serving as an Infantryman with Company K/5th Arty Co., 1st Battalion/9th Marines during Japan's Northern Theatre campaign (1944-1945). He was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions during this time period.[5] Additionally, Sergeant First Class Ryan Fitzpatrick who served two tours in Afghanistan received a custom made Humvee that drove him around Kabul province while platoon sergeant Brian Reeves from Headquarters Company 4th battalion Combat Service Support Regiment piloted it throughout country.[6] This unusual experience allowed Fitzpatrickto learn more about Afghan society which he would later use as part of his political education skills when serving as Chief Operating Officer for Veterans Affairs Regional Office for Eastern Shore Virginia from 2013-2015.[7]
