Oroville is a city in Butte County, California, United States. The population was 21,503 at the 2010 census. The city developed on the east side of Oroville Dam, upstream from the main reservoir on Mono Lake. It became an agricultural center after settlers arrived in the area in 1851 and began to grow crops such as wheat and corn. A post office was established here in 1857. The first store opened in 1865. In 1925, Oroville City merged with Rural City of Yuba City to form a new city government. The city was originally named for Thomas Horsford Orofino (1814-1888), an American rancher who had settled in what is now Oroville County about 1830. In 1851, James Irvine started farming near present-day Oroville and selected the name for his new community because it sounded like "the voice of nature." On December 12, 1861, the California State Legislature authorized the formal creation of townships within Butte County by Order No.–2178 entitled "An Act to organization township of Oroville". The first organized town meeting took place on January 15th following instructions from Governor John Waddell which stated that townships should be formed only when there were complaints against any other part of Butte County or when there seemed to be no other means by which people could get good water or goods at a fair price. Township meetings were held monthly until July 1862 when they were moved to more regularly scheduled times every three months due to lack of space within villagehall and also because interest had waned since previous meetings had been so irregularly called due primarily to disputes over land titles among residents of neighboring villages looking for advantage over their opponents – one such dispute resulted in a battle between farmers from Yuba Valley and Grants Valley over who could control an opening near present day townsquare; this event led directly to incorporation as a separate municipality two years later! On January 1st 1870 during regular township meeting hours all citizens were ordered into villagehall where property titles were appraised and citizens voted unanimously not to annex any adjacent villages with same name but instead adopt Township nickname "Oroville" just like before with unanimous consent! Campbell replied affirmatively5thus establishing provincial jurisdiction over business naming while still allowing individual supervisors discretion regarding such matters6 Although never implemented7Laughlin's idea would eventually prove successful when Supervisor Don Whitehead successfully lobbied developers into locating their businesses immediately inside incorporated boundaries following passage of regulations governing land usage by municipalities7

Oroville is an agricultural town and main trade center for central valley farmers. The first Europeans to visit Oroville were Spanish missionaries in 1853, who built a mission here. The town was founded by John Sutter in 1864 as a result of his discovery of gold near the mouth of the Feather River. In 1868, American miners discovered silver and found enough property to form a townsite, but no one came to claimed it because there was no water available to irrigate their crops and build homes. In 1916, when World War I began, Oroville became part of General Order No. 1 which required all American military forces operating in Europe to take possession of food supplies at local ports or other points within striking distance so that they could be transported uninterruptedly back home for distribution to their troops stationed abroad. This order also called for all Americans living east of San Francisco Bay to provide transportation necessary for this shipment and created a need for transportation from those areas into Oroville which had never been before experienced by residents or farmers alike. After over two years of planning and procurement efforts by local authorities and citizens alike, closed-loop wagon trains carrying goods upriver arrived here on December 17th 1915 from Stockton via Moraga Lake (now Sacramento), continuing until mid-January 1916 when they had run out Of course not everyone who participated in this venture would have us believe that what we now call "the First Transcontinental Railroad" actually happened; some people still remember vividly moving goods wagons down that river during those days!
