When the United States Navy deployed in Oroville in 1941, they brought along a gift for the city that would last a lifetime. The USS Constitution was moored in Lake Oroville when it arrived and was soon joined by other warships to form the Pacific Fleet. The fleet sailed to Japan in early 1942 and participated in the Battle of Midway. While there, the Constitution's crew donated food and water to troops on shore. After returning home, the navy stationed its ships at various ports around California until 1945. The USS Constitution Museum located on City Hall Plaza today is dedicated to preserving this important naval artifact from our past. It has been said that nothing can replace the memories of sailors who have served aboard this ship or those who have visited her during her time as part of our navy. When the United States Navy sent its ships and planes to participate in Operation Neptune Spear, they were not expecting much. However, they had the best of both worlds with the deployment of USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 78) and USS John F. Kennedy (CVN 77). These two ships were able to conduct joint exercises with other navy vessels as well as provide support for Special Operations forces. The gift that these sailors brought back was a true indication of their service to our country and its citizens.

Oroville is a city located in Stanislaus County, California, United States. The population was 68,569 at the 2010 census. Oroville is the county seat of Stanislaus County. It is also home to the University of California, Davis and O'Shaughnessy Air Force Base. The first people to live in what is now Oroville were the Ohlone people who arrived from southern China about 12700 years ago. They built their villages on high ground overlooking Lake Oroville. A small community called Ohlone Landing developed around this time and it was later renamed Oroville after General John C. Fremont because he was instrumental in developing the area for settlement by Europeans. In 1868, when Yosemite National Park was created as part of President Ulysses S. Grant's effort to protect America's most famous national park system, parts of Stanislaus County were annexed into the new park including part of Oroville which included land that would become known as "The Valley". The town of Oroville was founded by Captain James Wolkentinck on July 14, 1870 while he led a livestock drive through what became today's City of Oroville along Clear Creek bed between present-day town center and Lakeside Cemetery; Wolkentinck named his new village after General John C."Fremont" (1797-1865), one of history's most celebrated commanders during California’s Gold Rush era and an early settler in Northern California Captain James Wolkentinck served as Mayor from 1871 until his death in 1872 In 1875 Colonel George Armstrong y Conklin took command at Fort Yuma during the American Civil War with orders to establish trade routes between San Francisco Bay and Southern Nevada Territory which included Whatcom County On May 6th 1863 Yurtsman Augustus Nordquist discovered gold nearpresent-dayYosemite Village while prospecting with Mexican miners under contract from Don Juan Castrorado On October 20th 1863 Commodore Matthew Perry sailed up San Francisco Bay with USS Sachem bound for Monterey where he intended to find usable gold fields but returned emptyhanded on November 3rd due to bad weather conditions At That Time there were no roads across those mountains so prospectors had to hike or carry their supplies up over snow drifts Some men spent weeks building a road from Independence Rock all the way down past Grayhurst today's South Grove There are still scattered evidence left over today such as a rickety old bridge that spans Clear Creek about halfway between downtown and Northgate High School One day you can see these relics walking through downtown today when heavy rains cause creek levels below Northgate High Schoolto rise above Flood stage This year they removed one old spanoftheoldbridgeand replaced it with a brand new one Downtown residents enjoy easy accesstocreekduringheavyrainfallsnowthattheyhaveabrandnewbridgeDowntown residents enjoy easy accesstocreekduringheavyrainfallsnowthattheyhaveabrandnewbridge During World War II many military facilities were constructed within or adjacent to The Valley including: Fort Arroyo (1945), Camp Pendleton (1946), Goodyear Army Ammunition Plant (1949), Tank Plant No 1 (1952), Coyote Hills Bomb disposal Site(1957) and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company Facility(1964). The USS John F Kennedy Presidential Library Ship - This library ship was givento President John F Kennedy on November 22nd, 1960 following his assassination by Lee Harvey Oswald on November 5th of that year. On July 25th 1969 she made her maiden voyage downriver from Newport News Virginia carrying almost 3 million books, records and other memorabilia from JFK's presidential library project across America including stops at Dallas Texas; Milwaukee Wisconsin; New Orleans Louisiana; Jacksonville Florida; Boston Massachusetts; Anchorage Alaska Additionally she carried passengers on two round-trip voyages across oceans between Washington D.C., Miami Beach FL and Havana Cuba!
