That year, Harry Fritz purchased 2 pounds of beans from Enoch White and started brewing his own java at home. In 1957, Don Kapp bought 2 pounds of beans from Harry Fritz and opened the first commercial café in downtown Oroville. In 1961, Don Kapp married Rita Torres, who had worked for him at the local cafe. They reopened the café as The Spot with their new business partner Linda Montoya serving as an Operations Manager until her retirement in 1994. In 1984, Bob Singer acquired majority ownership of The Spot and renamed it Bob's Coffee Town after his son Bob Singer Jr.'s nickname (and father's initials). The town originally consisted of a few log homes and a mill. In 1911, the City of Oroville was incorporated with a population of around 1,200 people. In 1853, A. P. Hill founded the first post office in Oroville and named it after General Ulysses S. Grant who had recently become President of the United States. The first store opened in 1855 and by 1860 there were six stores in town with two more opening shortly thereafter: One run by Hiram Farnsworth which became known as "Farnsworth's", another by John Clements which became known as "Clements'". By 1865 there were twenty-one businesses operating within town limits with four banks; three saloons; two blacksmiths; one grist mill; one sawmill; eleven farmsteads; four schools (grades 1-8); three churches (Methodist, Catholic, Baptist); five post offices (); twelve lumber yards (); thirteen restaurants (); sixteen residences (). In 1912 Oroville had a population of 25 people and developed into what is now its current size having grown to over 100 people by 2000 according to its website .
