In 1876, George Fenton opened his own gun shop on Third Street which became known as Fenton’s Gun Shop until it closed in 1951 due to fire damage caused by Hurricane Agnes . In 1903, James Moulder moved from Pasadena to Oxnard and started selling pistols at his store on First Street which later became known as Moulder & Sons Pistol Store . In 1916, Al Capone rented an old warehouse on Fourth Street for use as his pistol range . The range continued operation until it was destroyed by a fire in 1948 . In 1957, Donny Chaney reopened his old store called Donny’s Sportsman’s Arms near Thousand Oaks Boulevard which continues to operate today as Donny’s Gun Shop . Starting in 1969 there was also a Second Amendment Firearms Museum within walking distance of Donny's Gun Shop that offered exhibits about American gun history In 1984, Donny Chaney passed away leaving behind an unfinished business: opening up a second gun shop inside Donny's Gun Shop called Western Armory where customers could purchase guns pre-made or make their own guns using parts from other businesses within Oxnard including Donny's Pistol Shoppe , David Brown ‘ s Firearms Emporium (now defunct) , Allyn & Bacon ' s Firearms Emporium (now defunct) , Tony Ippolito ‘ s Guns & Ammo (now defunct) and others Donny Chaney's Western Armory remains open today operating under the name of "Western Armory"
