The first time that coffee was exported from Oxnard was in 1912 when two Dutchmen imported 50 sacks of beans from Brazil. Coffee production began to increase inOxnard after World War I when American soldiers stationed in Ventura County found that roasted beans from nearby El Cajon tasted better than their local counterparts. By 1925, Oxnard had become one of the largest producers of medium-grade coffees in Southern California. During World War II, whenOXNARDnative Americans served abroad, they brought back large amounts of French roast beans which were then used for brewing espresso during peacetime. After the war ended, demand for quality Columbian beans resumed and Coffeemaster Corporation was founded in 1949. Oxnard, California is a city located in Ventura County, California. The population was 165,812 as of the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Ventura County and second most populous city in Los Angeles County. It is also one of the largest cities in Orange County. The area that now makes up Oxnard was first settled by Native Americans who called it "Ha-kaua" meaning "place where the trees grow." The early settlers were Spanish fur traders and their mestizo Indian partners who built a rancho on what is now Redondo Beach Boulevard between Camarillo Boulevard and Harbor Drive in 1835. Today's Oxnard, originally part of San Pedro Bay Colony which extended from Point Mugu to Santa Paula on Yorba Linda Peninsula was founded by Captain George Pyle after his voyage from Acapulco with vessels loaded with cedar for Mission San Gabriel Arcangelus having sighted land off Ventura Harbor on July 24, 1795. Captain Pyle named this new settlement "Plymouth" after his ship, HMS Plymouth (1792) anchored at anchor off Point Mugu about 12 nautical miles north of modern day Oxnard during November 1798 while exploring southern California waters looking for an entrance to Mexico

Oxnard is a city in southern Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 146,856 at the 2010 census. Oxnard is located on the Oxnard Peninsula, east of Dana Point and west of Thousand Oaks. The first Europeans to visit this area were the Spanish in 1769 and they named it San Pedro de Orojo. It was not until 1821 that Oxnard became a town when part of Rancho Santa Fe de la Vergara grant from Mexican president Alvarado to two brothers. The town site was chosen by General James Humboldt for his new mission colony at Shelter Island. In 1848, three-time Nobel Prize winner Johann Wolfgang von Goethe came to live in Oxnard as an author and mentor before moving to Germany later that year. In 1850 he published " Faust". In 1851–52, John Copley built a summer home at Shingle Beach on Rancho Santa Fe de la Vergara's eastern coast known today as Copley Heights. In 1875, businessman George Hearst moved his family from San Francisco to open what would become Hearst Castle and other businesses in what is now called Hearst Town Center on the former ranch land where Copley Heights stood. He also added much of what is now downtown Oxnard onto beachfront property he had bought along with other properties between 1915 and 1922 including parts of present-day Harbor City east of Ventura Boulevard and south of First Street. The 1923 movie "Citizen Kane" was shot near Seal Beach with early sound equipment in the old Terminal Annex used for storage by Southern Pacific Railroad until 1951 when it became part of the University Park Shopping Center north of Ventura Boulevard which replaced nearbyCandlestick Park which burned down in 1978 after being damaged by a firebombing raid during World War II . The current business district began growth around Highway 101/Ventura Boulevard when big box stores (KFC, Safeway) opened up space next door beginning in the late 1970s while neighbor Harbor City continued Growth into the 2000s filling most remaining empty storefronts vacated by big box stores as well as several small businesses like J'ai Laverne which closed its doors due to lack of customers but reopened under new ownership later that decade.. By 2006 there were over 100 small businesses operating DowntownOxnard with many more opening up since then including local restaurants such as Zuma Grill & Brewery dating back to 1925(now defunct).. In fact one recent development has been Whatcom Brewing Company founded in 2007 just off I-805 north side mall across from Macy's department store
