Oxnard, California is a city in Ventura County, California. The population was 66,955 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Pacific Coast of Southern California. The area now known as Oxnard was first inhabited by the Tongva people and their ancestors who began to live there about 10,000 years ago. The first Europeans to visit this area were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and Sebastián Vizcaíno who sailed into what is now Ventura County on October 15, 1542. They named it Isla de Santa Catalina after Saint Catherine of Alexandria, whose tomb still stands in Camarillo Rancho Seco within oxnard city limits. In 1881, during the Mexican-American War, General José Joaquín Herrera y Costilla made an attack against American forces at Camarillo Rancho Seco and burned down part of town including much of the old hospital which had been built by Father Junipero Serra in 1857. This event is commonly referred to as "the Battle of Oxnard". In 1902 Oxnard was annexed by Los Angeles County; however it remained a separate municipality until 1959 when it became one of three cities in Los Angeles County (the others being Pasadena and San Bernardino) when that county was created from parts of Orange and Riverside counties. The community's name comes from Spanish explorer Antonio de la Rúa's report that he sighted an uninhabited island off Ventura coast on November 8, 1769 while sailing along the current border between Ventura and San Diego Counties There were two towns established near present-day Oxnard - La Portezuela on April 14 1870 (acceded by voters via a referendum) and Dutchtown (now part of Carpinteria) on July 5 1871 just south of Cambria Heights Road/State Route 154 between Vineyards Park Drive/Old Gibson Rd./Carpinteria Boulevard & Water Tower Dr./Today’s Carpinteria Blvd./El Monte Ave./Pleasanton Ave./South Gate Blvd../Upper Valley Rd./Xavier Ave../ today’s Arroyito Way/Laguna Hills Blvd /— all were dissolved May 1st 1889 due to demands for annexation by LAS because they adjoined other municipalities without proper vote or process then under law also annexing Playa del Carmen which no longer exists

Oxnard, California is a city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 24,591 at the 2010 census. Oxnard's history can be traced back to 1847 when it was organized as an agricultural town named Oxnard by postmaster general James A. Walton. It became a city on December 5, 1912 when it was reincorporated as a part of Ventura County. The first residents of what is now Oxnard were Mexican immigrants who had come to the area in 1847 during the Gold Rush. They built their homes near present-day Ventura Boulevard and Thousand Oaks Boulevard and began cultivate land that still stands today. The first church in the community was erected in 1850 and soon there were schools and businesses within the town limits. In 1907, Oxnard joined with other cities in southern Ventura County to form the new county of Ventura. This development led to increased trade between Oxnard and surrounding communities and helped increase business opportunities for both men and women within the city limits. In 1915, oxnard annexed neighboring El Monte which made it one of the most populous cities within county boundaries at that time; however, this annexation did not result in any significant growth for either side – only shared services and benefits such as transportation links were provided between the two cities through agreements made during early government years (1915-1920). During World War II many local industries produced goods needed by U.S military forces; however due to changing technology none of these operations could take place without sacrificing critical manufacturing jobs throughout Southern California which would have dire consequences for our economy throughout 1942-1945 alone*. In 1945, after years of negotiation between warring factions following Japan's surrender* (the signing of unconditional surrender documents occurred on September 2nd),OXNARD came into being as an independent city under control of then Mayor Don Whitehead*.
