The United States military has a long and proud history in Pacific Grove, California. The area was originally part of the Mission San Francisco de Asís, founded in 1768. The mission was rededicated in 1821 as the Rancho Santa Clara de Arcos y Tejas, which was part of the Mexican land grant system. In 1848, the United States acquired additional land around Pacific Grove through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The following year, Ulysses S. Grant became President of the United States and announced plans to build a military post at Guadalupe Heights on Rancho El Cajon. A group of local businessmen offered to provide land for the post and construction began in 1850. The first Post Office opened in 1854 and was known as Guadalupe Heights Station. At its peak, there were over 150 officer corps members stationed at Guadalupe Heights Station. However, during World War I (1914-18),Guadalupe Heights Station closed due to lack of funding and it reopened as an Army ammunition depot in 1917 under new management from Fort Monterrey, Mexico City In 1940, with World War II approaching,Guadalupe Heights Station again closed due to lack of funding but it reopened under new management as Camp Pendleton until 1946 when it reverted back to Fort Monterrey control after World War II ended During World War II (1914-18),Camp Pendleton again closed due to lack of funding but it reopened under new management as an Army ammunition depot After World War II ended (1945-1946), Camp Pendleton reverted back to Fort Monterrey control

The United States Army Garrison Pacific Grove was established in 1865 as an infantry post on the banks of the Sacramento River. The post served as a garrison for soldiers and civilians until 1875, when it became an artillery battery. In 1912, the battery was redesignated Battery No. 1, and in 1923 it became a regiment-sized battery named after Major General Edwin W. "Bull" Sanderson. In World War II, Battery No. 1 served with distinction in the Burma Campaign and Battle of Imphal Ridge before its members were mustered out in 1945. It was reactivated at Fort Shafter in 1947 as part of American Forces Japan (AFCJ). Battery No. 1 participated in Operation Downfall during the war's final months and ultimately surrendered to Japanese forces on September 2, 1945.
Pacific Grove, California is a small town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern shore of Point Reyes National Seashore. Theodore Roosevelt established the town in 1887 as an agricultural research station to improve his land holdings near Isla Vista and San Francisco Bay. Pacific Grove became a center for art and culture in the 1920s when it hosted a fringe of Hollywood stars and Important Americana such as Ezra Pound and Gertrude Stein. Today, Pacific Grove is known for its many botanical gardens, its picturesque geography and its rich history. There are several theories about why people settled in this area: one suggests that they were drawn by the natural resources available here- including oil wells and abundant timber- while others suggest that it was because of strategic advantages location afford such as being able to trade with Asia easily or being near navigable waterways. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Contra Costa County occurred when Franciscan friars founded Rancho San Pablo de Atascadero in 1795 on land then part of Alameda County. By 1800, there were over 100 families living there; however, only 10% of them drank alcohol so consumption was limited to religious services. In 1853, a group of businessmen from Los Angeles decided to set up a store at Atascadera after noticing how easy it was for goods from nearby San Jose to get into Northern California via ferryboat. They named their business "Pacific Grove". The first post office opened at Pacific Groove on July 14th 1860 under the name Oficina de Justicia y Amistad (Office of Justice and Friendship). The town's name change came about due to tensions between settlers who wanted an anglicized name ( differentiation from Spanish settlements) while other residents objected to having their names changed without proper notice; thus "Soquel" became "Pacific Grove." In 1892 Charles Wohlheimer bought 640 acres north of present-day Pacific Grove along Highway 101; he called it Rancho Atascadera which would become one of Contra Costa's most important agricultural holdings until his death 50 years later. Wohlheimer had been interested in buying land adjacent to Point Reyes but never got around to doing so until after he died unexpectedly during World War II while on vacation at Asilomar Island off Marin County.. After his death no one wanted anything to do with Rancho Atascadera since ownership passed back and forth among family members until 1984 when it reverted back fully unto the original owners - Charles Wohlheimer's nephews David Hirschhorn (who ran Rancheria del Norte), Douglas Elliman (founder/CEO & Chairman Emeritusof Dell Inc.), Loren Eisenberg (co-founder & Managing Directorof eBay), Jeffrey Immelt (ChairmanEmeritusof GEICO)and Irwin Jacobs Jr.(President& CEOOf Intel Corporation). In 1967 Pershing Square Shopping Center opened adjacent ToPershing Square Drive Shopping mall across Santa Clara Street from Interstate 280 freeway east side lot east side street 3100 SF Pershing Square Drive Soquel CA 95355 In 2004 Caltrans reconstructed Route 101 bridge over Carquinez Strait creating new pathway providing easier access from Route 1 southbound lanes carpooling .There will be two roundabouts each way where travelers will have time allowed before entering I-280Exit 5 southbound onto highway 301E follow directions marked signage .. Go East coming off I-280 exit 4 proceed straight ahead following arrows left past traffic signals onto Pershing square drive intersecting with Santa Clara street go right following arrow future roadway turn left just before intersection with route 1 which formswestern border

Pacific Grove is a town located in Santa Cruz County, California. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. The first European sighting of what is now Pacific Grove was by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on July 20, 1542. In 1853 James Hutton discovered an oil well in the area and named it "Pacific Grove." In 1876, the community of Pacific Grove incorporated as a town. The town's history can be traced back to 1795 when José Fortunato de la Rúa purchased Rancho San Lorenzo from Juan Bautista Paullón for $1,000. The rancho was situated on the north shore of Monterey Bay and consisted of 254 acres (112 ha). De la Rúa used part of the land to build his new home, which he named "Fortunato's Bluff," after himself. He also built a small chapel and began to cultivate vegetables and fruits on his property. In 1810 Francisco Xavier Mármol y Valdés founded Mission San Miguel Arcángel on the point where Fortunato's Bluff sits today. After two years of construction, Mármol moved the church and its accompanying convent to campus in 1812 due to a lack of space at Mission San Miguel Arcángel. In 1814 Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna defeated English forces at Palo Alto during their invasion of California and thus claimed California for Mexico; as a result, most American towns in Californias were abandoned except for Pacific Grove which prospered until 1860 when gold seekers came looking forvesting caches across Monterey Bay in an attempt to find alluvial goldfields hidden beneath earths borings had found near Point Bonita and Eureka Hills respectively.]] From 1860-1868 Samuel Morse operated one of America’s first telegraph lines between Sacramento and Japan.)] In 1865 Pacific Groves post office opened with Jens Christensen as mail carrier.]] Theodore Roosevelt became Governor Of California in November 1912 while living at Alta Loma near Los Angeles.]] On December 12th 1942 Japanese submarine I-13 torpedoed USS Holland (CV-38) off Coast of Cape Mendocino killing over 50 sailors including Commandant Ensign Kiku Matsubara)]] Eleanor Roosevelt died aged 77 on April 14th 1945 while living at Hyde Park House near New York City.]
