The Coast Guard has been in the Pacific Grove area for over 100 years. The first coast guard station was built on the present site of the current building in 1894. In 1916, a second coast guard station was built on High Street in Pacific Grove. Today, there are four coast guard stations located throughout the Pacific Grove area: Station #1 at 10 E Main St;Station #2 at 421 Main St;Station #3 at 228 S Main St; and Station #4 at 5th Ave & Market St. Each station provides law enforcement and emergency services to the community. In 1924, a third coastal guard station was built on Power Road in Pacific Grove. This station provided general law enforcement services to the community as well as providing fire and rescue services during times of crisis. In 1951, a fourth coastalguard station was constructed on 4th Ave & Market St inPacific Grove. This station provided general law enforcement services to the community as well as providing fire and rescue services during times of crisis. Today, Coast Guard personnel provide protection for both local residents and tourists from ships that may be entering or leaving port in town or on nearby beaches. They also respond to emergencies such as hurricanes and earthquakes which can occur anywhere around the world. In the early 1800s, Pacific Grove was a small town on the Monterey Peninsula in California. The community was founded by the Spanish in 1785 as part of Rancho San Lorenzo de Asís. In 1821, during the Mexican-American War, it became part of Alta California and was named for its location at Catalina Island. The town experienced growth during the 19th century because of its proximity to major ports on both coasts and its status as a stop on stagecoaches running between San Francisco and Los Angeles. By 1890, Pacific Grove had a population of 3,000 people and boasted an active military presence including two battalions of Marines stationed at Fort Pointe. However, by 1915,Pacific Grove had shrunk to just 150 residents due to economic reasons and epidemics such as tuberculosis that struck the area. However, despite its current difficulties, Pacific Grove has seen some significant changes in recent years. In 2007, it became one of eight communities around the United States chosen to participate in the Vista delMar Community Development Project which aimed to create new jobs through marketing and development initiatives. Additionally, in 2009Pacific Grove was inducted into the National Register of Historic Places for its role in history and culture within California’s Central Coast region

In 1951, Captain John Fritchey bestowed an over $1,000 check upon Petty Officer First Class George A. Smith for his participation in Operation Neptune’s Spear, which was a V-E Day commemoration ceremony at NAS Key West, Florida. This event marked one of the most important moments in Petty Officer First Class Smith’s career because it demonstrated that he could achieve great things despite limited resources and support from his unit. In 1978, Rear Admiral Timothy J. Keefe presented medals and a service revolver to three emergency responders who had rendered valuable assistance during an earthquake near San Francisco. The recipients were firefighters Lieutenant James Lourdes (left) and firefighter/EMT Emmanuel Sanchez; paramedic Trooper Michael Jansen; and police officer Kevin Rochefortt (right). This was perhaps Sea Grant's most well known gift ever - all three recipients received numerous awards including commendations from Congress and state governors throughout California. Since its inception, Coast Guard Gift Giving has undergone many changes both as a result of legislation passed by Congress or through donations received from individuals or organizations outside of governmental control. Some notable examples include: In 1979, President Jimmy Carter awarded two sets of medals - one set comprising six gold stars representing distinguished service along with two silver stars for valor - to members of the Los Angeles Harbor Police Department for their heroic efforts during Operation Desert Storm satellite imagery operations over Iraq on February 27th, 1991 . These Medals were later presented to Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates on April 3rd,1993 by then US Vice President Al Gore . Pacific Grove is a city in Santa Cruz County, California, United States. The population was 9,853 at the 2010 census. Pacific Grove has been home to many notable people and events including author Mark Twain, musician Jerry Garcia and actor-director Orson Welles. The first European settlers arrived in 1769 on the boat "Discovery". A town was founded by David Tevis in 1847 but it failed to take off because of its close proximity to San Francisco. In 1851, the Ford brothers built a sawmill on the creek that flows through Pacific Grove and named it Fordville after them. In 1865, the U.S. military decided to build Fort Point near where the Creek flowed into Yerba Buena Bay for gunnery training purposes only and did not establish a permanent settlement there. The town slowly grew around this fort until it had a population of about 100 people by 1890 when it became incorporated as an unincorporated community under state law. In 1896, Ebenezer Morse donated land for what would become Pacific Grove Cemetery which still stands today thanks to his donation more than 20 years later. The grove of trees surrounding the cemetery are said to be one of the most beautiful in California. On December 12th, 1907, President William McKinley was assassinated while speaking at an exposition in Paris (one of several assassinations during McKinley's presidency). One theory suggests that suspect Arthur Conan Doyle may have been behind McKinley's assassination due to his dislike of him as president however no evidence has ever been found connecting Doyle with any crime
