The history of the Coast Guard in Pacifica, California goes back to 1879. The first Coast Guard station in Pacifica was established at Point Reyes National Seashore and manned by a detachment of Marines. In 1887, the Navy acquired land at Point Reyes and erected a station on it which became known as Naval Station San Francisco. In 1896, the Coast Guard Station Point Reyes was decommissioned and converted into a ranger post.In 1937, the USCG activated its first cutter PC-1 in response to the heightening menace of piracy off the coast of California. From then until its closure in 1951, PC-1 acted as a flagship for operations against piracy throughout coastal California. In 1958, PC-1 was decommissioned and reactivated as an air tender with Helicopter Squadron HS-61A2 (the “Dolphin”). Between 1951 and 1957, HS-61A2 flew missions from Stockton to Tomales Bay on Sonoma County destroying pirate boats. During this time period helicopter squadron also flew support for Search & Rescue operations during floods and other emergencies along the coastline

Pacifica is a city in Marin County, California, United States. The population was 29,241 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north side of Golden Gate Park and its namesake is a large estuary of the San Francisco Bay. Pacifica has been nicknamed "The City by the Bay" for its location near San Francisco's Financial District and other top tourist destinations. Pacifica was founded in 1868 as part of what would become Marin County. The city name originated with Captain George Vancouver's plan to found a new town on an uninhabited island in San Francisco Bay. On July 16, 1868, Vancouver named his new settlement "New Victoria" after Princess Victoria of England who had just arrived in America from her trip to Mexico City. At first glance, it appeared that Pacifica would be little more than a small fishing village - but it rapidly grew into one of North America's most important maritime towns before World War II when its Naval Shipyard became world-renowned for manufacturing submarines and other naval vessels. As Silicon Valley began to emerge as a major center for technology industry during the 1990s and 2000s, Pacifica saw increasing development around it – with several thousand jobs moving into the area over that period alone. On 1 July 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed Executive Order 12973 which designated the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as responsible for all aspects of federal coast guard functions within five years. Throughout its history, NOAA has played a vital role in assuring American coasts from natural disasters such as hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes and storm surges; guarding against cyber threats; promoting ocean conservation; helping small businesses succeed;and more. Today’s NOAA provides essential coastal services through its Office of Marine Safety Programs (OMSP), Offices of Environmental Protection (OEP), Fisheries Service Centers (FSCC), Coastal Zone Management Districts (CZMDs), Hazardous Substance Response Teams (HSRTs), Weather Prediction Center(WPC) & Geophysical Data System Offices(GDSO).

Pacifica is a city in San Francisco County, California, United States. The population was 24,491 as of the 2010 census. Pacifica is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay and is part of the San Francisco–Oakland–Hayward metropolitan area. It straddles the Hayward Fault line which has caused damage to buildings in both cities over the years. The first people to live in what is now Pacifica were Native American Indians who called it Pomo Pointe because of its high point, which overlooks Mission Bay on Nob Hill. European explorers discovered this Coast Range region from 1769 to 1783 by sailing west along today's coast from Panama City on Mexico's Pacific Islet. Captain James Cook anchored at Pomo Pointe during his third voyage around Cape Horn in 1779 and named it after King George II of England because he thought he saw land shaped like a human face on that point. An 1824 adobe building still stands near where US Highway 101 crosses Hastings Street off Highway 1 north of downtown that served as an early post office before moving to its present location two blocks east in 1873 when Drayton McLoughlin built his house at 5th and Franklin Streets. [1] Whaling ships sailed past Pomo Point for Monterey Bay about 2 miles offshore until they could no longer find whales due to commercial whaling being banned by Great Britain following their victory against France during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). American whalers soon became interested in these distant animals since they had much meat left over from earlier raids into British Columbia and Siberia; so instead of using traditional methods such as hunting with dogs or nets, they began employing steamboats to catch whales by netting them close to shore then dragging them back out into deep water where they could be destroyed with explosives provided by Englishmen such as Robert Fulton who had patented this method while working for Nicholas-Jacques Conte (the Frenchman credited with getting America started in transportation). After three years efforts failed and dozens more men died trying, Captains John Davenport and Francis Drake decided to try an new method - dropping a harpoon into one of these creatures’ blowholes! This daring operation finally successful caught a whale on July 7, 1846 off Point Reyes Peninsula just southeast of here – thus establishing California’s connection with Whaling history![2][3] In 1860 there were 10 families living near what is now Market Street], but most moved away when gold was found nearby.[4] The first post office opened at 6th & Market Streets on October 15, 1872,[5][6][7] serving Alameda County until 1913 when it merged with Berkeley.[8][9][10] On November 3rd 1870 residents voted 54% against annexation by San Francisco because there was not enough public support.[11] A few months later Benjamin Waybright bought some property including what would become modern day Pacifica Boulevard southwest of Haight Street for $6000,[12][13][14] founding Waybright & Geary LLP which remains headquartered here today[15]. By 1880 there were 50 families living here although many pulled away from town when gold was discovered nearby;[16]:45 only five remain today within one block radius centered around Haight/Market streets
