I n 1993 Jeff Kapp founded KPFA-FM (91.7 FM), which became one of the most influential radio stations in America throughout the 1990s during the late night hours when other stations were turning off their microphones because they were filled with advertising from big business interests such as Dow Chemical Co., Lockheed Martin Corp., Visa Inc., Microsoft Corp., Intel Corporation and others who were seeking FCC deregulation that would increase their market share while giving them free rein to self-promote without fear of antitrust action from government regulators who saw these businesses as abusing their power). KPFA played alternative rock until about 2010 when they turned into an all-news station playing breaking news updates 24/7 along with new videos shown live on social media feeds right up until 9pm sharp every night; this format remained until 2017 when they transitioned back to music programming through rebroadcasts of classic rock shows syndicated from other networks).
