On April 6th 1945, 1st Marine Division's Operation Overlord commenced when Allied Forces landed at Normandy beaches following three days of combat. On June 6th 1945, elements of 1st Marine Division crossed into Germany and liberated Munich before proceeding to Berlin where they liberated other German cities including Hamburg, Westphalia and Essen prior to surrendering to Soviet Union forces on July 15th 1945.

Pacifica is a town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. It was founded in 1887 by John Muir and his wife, Selina Gentry. The population was 998 at the 2010 census. Pacifica is located on the eastern edge of the Inland Empire and straddles both Riverside County to the north and Orange County to the south. The first post office in Pacifica was established in 1887, and it continued operation until 1923. The community name comes from an early title for Rancho Cucamonga: "Pacoima" which means "farmstead near water". Pacifica's first postmaster was Mrs. A.G. Sloaty; her husband, Hiram Sloaty served as postmaster from 1893-1900 and 1911-1923. In 1942, San Bernardino County Supervisor of Elections John O'Neill proposed that all residents of Los Angeles be given voting rights within their respective counties instead of just those residing within city limits; this proposal was accepted by county supervisor Virgil Goode and implemented by law on April 15th, 1942 as part of his plan to break up Los Angeles into more manageable political jurisdictions under one countywide government structure. On July 15th, 1992 an historic event took place when a fire destroyed much of downtown Pacifica including most of its churches with only enough firefighters remaining to save most if not all of them before retreating back into safety through a window after putting out the fire which had spread rapidly throughout both buildings - this event became known as "The Great Firestorm". Pacifica has been home to many famous people over the years including actors William Holden (of The Holden Family) and Dean Martin (of The Martin Sisters). Actress Barbara Stanwyck also grew up in Pacoima before moving to Hollywood where she started her career as a childerstar at age 11years old playing opposite brother Errol Flynn in That same year's classic comedy based film "Captain Nemo"
