Fresh roasted coffee has been a part of the Palm Desert community for over 100 years. The first coffee roasters in Palm Desert were founded in 1865 by John C. Arpaio and Lorenzo Mattotti. In 1916, Mr. Mattotti opened the first Italian-owned and operated coffee shop in palm desert, called "Porcellini". From that day forward, coffee sales and roast operations at Porcellini became synonymous with quality and flavor. In 1963, when entrepreneur Angelo Gassone purchased the business from Mr. Mattotti, he began to change the face of Palm Desert's cafes by introducing fresh roasted Arabica beans into his establishment. He enjoyed great success with this venture until his death in 1978. His son Angelo Gassone Jr., who succeeded him as owner/operator ofAngelo's Coffee Shop continued to carry on the family tradition of excellence and customer service at his store until 1996 when it was sold to D'Angelo Coffee Co., Incorporated (D'Angelo). This history is reflective of many small businesses throughout California that have long been entrusted with developing local traditionselike Porcellini and Angelo's Coffee Shops have done so while meeting challenging financial challenges along the way- often times while maintaining high standards of customer service that has set them apart from their competition

It became a town in 1911 and then a city in 1959. In 2003, it merged with neighbouring City of Industry to form Palm Desert/City of Industry Combined Statistical Area. According to the 2010 census, the combined population of Palm Desert/City of Industry was 113,542 people. The history of this area goes back to prehistoric times when there were settlements here that date back over 10,000 years ago! palm Desert is located in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. The community was founded by Manuel Antonio Fernandez on November 10, 1912 as a trading post between Palm Springs and Indio. The post was abandoned in 1918, but it re-established itself as an agricultural center with homesteads andresidential buildings being built between 1922 and 1930. By 1940, there were more than 1,000 people living in palm desert. In 1951, the community became a city under the name of Palm Desert. The city had a population of over 20,000 by 1992. From 2002 to 2006, palm desert was served by the Palm Springs Unified School District. In January 2011, voters passed Measure M which will provide $5 million for local schools over thirteen years through 2020. After much debate and opposition from some within the city government, the measure was approved by Mayor Kevin Faulconer following signature from Governor Gray Davis
The first Europeans to reach Palm Desert were Spanish explorers who discovered the area in 1542. There was no permanent settlement until 1869, when Rancho Santa Anita was established by Judge James W. Corcoran and his brother, John W. Corcoran. The original name of the rancho was San Jacinto which is Spanish for "the Saint's Protection." It was renamed Palm Desert in 1904 after a palm tree that grows there. In 1916, the United States bought Rancho Santa Anita from Judge Corcoran and it became part of Riverside County.
