The history of the navy in Palm Desert goes back to the early 1800s. The first recorded mention of a navy in this area was when Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza visited these shores in 1769. Throughout most of World War II, Navy personnel from both countries manned anti-submarine warfare vessels anchored offshore in support of allied forces against Axis submarines and other Nazi vessels operating off our coasts. In recent years, palm desert has become known as ahub for marine life research due to its favorable maritime climate and ample coastline for exploring waters near shoreline reefs providing habitats for hundreds of different types of marine animals found nowhere else on Earth!

By 1870, most of what is now Palm Desert had been annexed by Los Angeles County as part of Rancho CucamongaPancho Villa's attempt to unify all of southern California under his control. The area around Palm Desert became a center for citrus production during the early 20th century because of its rich soils and mild climate. With World War I looming ever closer, many farmers turned to irrigation techniques to provide food for cities like LA and New York City while providing an essential source of revenue for war-time governments such as Mexico City. During World War II, many small farms were destroyed by fire or attacked by Japanese forces; however, palm desert's resilient vegetation managed to survive despite these challenges. In 1961, when Hollywood producer Hal Wallis purchased 1% of las ventanas ranchero grape vinesyard near Indio (later renamed Rangeline), he immediately began making movies there using local talent including Michael Caine and Kirk Douglas. Over the years Wallis has produced more than 50 films here at las ventanas ranchero; some have grossed over $200 million worldwide alone! Today las ventanas ranchero remains one of Hollywood's most important movie sites with its pristine vineyards and spacious screening areas still available for filmmakers to use today!
On December 12, 1848, Rancho Palm Desert was organized from parts of the former Mission San Gabriel Arcangel and Mission Santa Anita. The land was located in present-day Riverside County, California. In 1851, a post office was established at Rancho Palm Desert. The original owner of the rancho were Manuel Nieto and his brother Pedro Nieto. By 1860, about 400 acres (1 km²) had been sold to José Gomez for $5 per acre ($10 per hectare). In 1861, Clemente Sosa bought the rancho from Gomez for $15 per acre ($25 per hectare). In 1865, Rafael Palma acquired part of the rancho from Sanchez and Josephine de la Cruz bought it from Palma in 1870. The first restaurant in Rancho Palm Desert opened on December 12th 1850 by Nicholas Chinneck with an oven that heated water to cook food inside. It burned down on January 8th 1851 because of a fire started by Jose Gomez who thought it was a toy! On July 2nd 1860 Coyote Wells opened up what is now known as Wells' Gourmet Emporium at 711 E 1st St., within walking distance of today's hotel/restaurant complex called The Residence Place
