By 1840, citrus trees were being grown here and cattle were being driven to market from these areas. For many years, the only way to get to Palm Desert was by following Route 66 which ran through this area. However, development began to occur in this part of Palm Springs around World War II when people realized how valuable this area could be for military purposes due to its proximity to ammunition dumps and other strategic locations. In 1951, John C Fremont founded what is now called Palm Desert as an orange juice and cattle town because of his interest in developing this new land into a thriving agricultural center. It wasn’t until 1970 that electric power arrived in Palm Desert making it possible for businesses like restaurants and hotels to open up shop hereabouts. A number of popular tourist destinations have since been established in palm desert such as Geology Museum of California (2005), Spa at Silverado Ranch (2008), Indian Wells Golf Links (2013), and Rodeo Drive (2015).

palm Desert, California is a city in Riverside County, California. The population was 158,792 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Palm Springs Metropolitan Statistical Area. The desert climate of Palm Desert gives it a hot and dry summer month with temperatures reaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 37 degrees Celsius, while winter sees lows below 30 degrees Celsius. Springtime brings blooms from April to May as various flowers dot the area; palm trees are also in full bloom during this time period. Fall sees colder weather with many leaves changing color; there are also pumpkin festivals throughout October and November. The city began as two small towns: Indian Wells and Hemet. In 1912, both communities were merged into one town under the name Palm Desert, Incorporating all businesses within their boundaries that had been operating separately since 1911-12 inclusive. In 1914–15 when Automobiles first got around here they started coming in huge numbers so John Mote started selling gasoline (today we have Chevron) out of his garage on Cooper Street which became known as "The Gara."In 1915 he built a garage on Second Street which contains still remains today as the oldest business in town - Chevrolet dealerships arrived later but these days it's used for storage space by Handy Manny's grocery store next door! After World War II there was a large military base here called "Palm Valley" and lots of people came and went including some really famous people like Howard Hughes who lived nearby on Aviators Drive before moving to Los Angeles! In 1957 Palm Desert incorporated as an unincorporated community under the same name with just over fifty residents living there according to government records only! There has never been any formal incorporation ordinance passed & no website exists documenting its history either... something tells us that maybe someone wanted to incorporation but didn't get around to it? Anyway back to our story... In 1957-58 Jack Welch set up shop at 1150 W First St (now home of Sotheby's) starting what would eventually become General Electric Co (GE). This building still stands today across from CenturyLink Field! Welch was then the CEO of GE until his retirement in 2001!!! What an amazing life story if you ask me! After retirement Welch moved back into his childhood home where he continues to live today with his wife Linda (& their dog Rocky!) Some other famous locals include singer Barbra Streisand who grew up just down the street from Welch & now lives near downtown Palm Desert; actor/director Bob Rafelson lived adjacent to him across First Avenue North; Don Blakemore used to work at Lockheed Martin Clinic adjacent to GE Building #2 opposite Sealord Mall!!
