The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway was established in 1912. The first tram line ran between Indian Wells and Palm Springs. In 1957, the route was extended to Cathedral City. In 1966, the trams were replaced by buses which continued until 1984 when they were discontinued due to budget cuts.

One year after America's entry into World War II through participation in wartime UK aircrews who were then mustered out of service with RAF squadrons flying Spitfires Mk I & IIs – on July 16th 1944 USAAF Group Captain James E Burke led an escort mission over Tokyo Bay from Midway Atoll following successful trials with two P-51 Mustang pilots taking off from USS Hornet carrier group escorting bombers escorted by F4U Corsair fighters while Rear Admiral Nagumo attacked shipping off Yokosuka Naval Base before returning home successfully completing their mission without loss or damage; only one man lost his life during that day: Pilot Officer First Class John W Hildebrandt (n/a) assigned to 41st Squadron Group at Iwakuni Naval Air Station on June 25th 1944). During 1945–1948 there were several changes within Headquarters Deputy Chiefof Staff Operations (DCEOS) Directorate Task Unit 515 which was responsible for all aspects associated with daylight bombing raids against targets deep inside Germany especially Dresden areas using Boeing B-29 Superfortresses operating from bases at Bergisch Gladbach am Ruhr including: 1) Commanding General George C Marshall’s directive “Air Offensive Against German Cities—A Study” developed during late summer 1945 gave rise to questions about strategic bombing being used more effectively than ever before against industrial centers like Dresden – Opns Order 66 completed on September 10th 1946 stated “No target should be bombed unless it can be shown that it will cause serious injury or death either civilian or military personnel” however because bomber crews could no longer fly low enough over cities they began hitting factories near major intersections instead such as Essen making it difficult for civilians living near these heavily bombed areas also numerous reports surfaced beginning in early 1948 showing extensive damage caused by fireballs created by attacking raiders; see article "Operation Crossroads" https://www.afhrafaqnet.com/article1/0,,19911609&ref=menu_search#item_19911609 ).
