In 1933, Hollywood star Douglas Fairbanks Jr.'s father purchased 1 km² (0.6 sq mi) of what would later become Palm Springs Boulevard from Robert Haysanger for $1 million dollars On December 2nd 1912 Opal Stonecutter opened her first store at 9th Street and Spring Road with three blocks of display space inside an old adobe building then home to Mrs Stonecutter’s husband José Romero who had run her store since 1890 when she established her own business on Spring Road clearing out brush near Los Angeles River before moving upriver two miles where she started selling acorns from Native American trees which were growing around Mission Dolores Ruins now part of University of Southern California campus

The name was altered to Palm Springs in 1915, when it became a city. Today, Palm Springs has a population of over 175,000 people and is considered an art and culture center due to its vast array of properties including the Hollywood Hills, where many celebrities live or have lived over the years. The city also includes several miles of beachfront property which offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Mt Palomino mountain range. Palm Springs’ history can be traced back to 1861 when William Sanger purchased 7 acres in what is now downtown Palm Springs from Manuel Nieto for $5 per acre. In 1912, Payne and Biersch bought 3 more acres for $10 per lot making up the present day Hollywood Hills area which they named “Hollywood Park” after their home at 1010 Riverside Drive in Los Angeles County (now part of Westwood). By 1916, Payne had built two hotels: one at 1111 Hacienda Boulevard (later renamed Century City) and another at 1201 Vine Street (later renamed Beverly Hills). In 1923, he sold his share in Hollywood Park to movie mogul Jesse Lasker who then sold it back to Payne for $40 million dollars making him one of the richest men in America at that time. The early days were difficult for Palm Springs because there were no water or electric services available so businesses had to use dogsleds or wagons to bring goods into town from points east such as Anaheim or Kern Valley during those times. However, through perseverance and hard work, Payne's businesses flourished and soon became known as "the father of Palm Springs." He donated land totaling 478 acres (249 hectares) south of Narrows Road on what are now North Hollywood Boulevard and Mulholland Drive along with 5 other parcels totaling 1 mile long (800 meters) between Narrows Road/Hollywood Boulevard+Mulholland Drive+Pine Avenue which formed today's Civic Center District boundaries
