In 1977, American Coffee Brands (ACB) merged with Maxwell House Coffee Company to form Maxwell House Coffee & Tea Corporation (MHT). MHT operated two large supermarket chains - Safeway and Kroger - as well as more than 100 cafes throughout North America. In 1984, ACB merged with Peet's Coffee Roasters to form Peet's Coffee & Tea Corporation (PEC). PEC operations were divided between Peet's retail stores and Peet's Haggen Incorporated grocery stores across North America. In 1988, PEC merged with Nabisco Foods to form Nestle Waters USA Incorporated (NWUSA). NWUSA operated over 500 foodstores throughout North America under three different names; Nabisco Food Group, Quaker Oats Co., and Pringles Plastics Ltd.- until it was spun off into its own company in1999 under the name Nestle Waters US LLC
