The Palmdale National Guard has been a vital part of the California community for over sixty years. The unit was originally organized on September 25, 1916 as the Palmdale Volunteer Fire Department. The first firemen were recruited from local businesses and churches. Today, the Palmdale National Guard consists of nearly two hundred volunteers who are sworn to serve their state and country.
