The Palos Verdes Estates Air Force Base is located in the city of Palos Verdes Estates, California. The base has been in operation since 1949 and it currently employs over 6,000 people. The Palos Verdes Estates Air Force Base is home to the 9th Fighter Wing which is responsible for providing air support for the United States military efforts in Afghanistan. The wing also operates two C-130J Super Hercules transports and two KC-135 Stratotankers. In 1954, the 9th Fighter Wing was activated at the Palos Verdes Estates Air Force Base and it became a part of Ninth Air Force. In 1958, Ninth Air Force was redesignated First Tactical Aerospace Division (1 TAD) and it became an operational wing within First Tactical Aerospace Division. 1 TAD arrived at Palos Verde AFB on May 8, 1958 and its mission was to provide air defense for Los Angeles County area. On November 11, 1958 1 TAD took off from its base to conduct airstrikes against North Korean targets in response to Pyongyang's launch of a nuclear missile over Japan. On October 3, 1959 1 TAD conducted airstrikes against Cuban targets as part of Operation Boomerang which was intended to discourage Fidel Castro from following through with his plans to install a nuclear weapons program inside Cuba. One year later on December 16th 1 TAD attacked sites within Laos during an effort dubbed Operation Rolling Thunder which were meant to disrupt communist supply lines between South Vietnam and Laos. On January 17th 1960 1TAD conducted another airstrike against Laotian targets as part ofOperation Neptune Spear which aimed to stop rocket development by North Vietnamese forces inside Laosprior to their invasion of that country in January 1961). In 1967 First Tactical Aerospace Division moved from its location at Palm Springs Airport northeastwardly into what is now known as Terminal Three on July 15th when first squadron assignment for EB-2C Hawkeye bombers arrived at the new location after being stationed at Bob Hope Airport (now Joint Base Ventura/Long Beach). At Terminal Three there were three squadrons assigned: EAB-2C Beechcraft Baron aircraft operated out of Gate Two while EAB-3C Douglas A-4 Skyhawks patrolled Gate Three; KBUH-1D Buicks converted into RFB-3B Can Am trainers based out of Gate Four; while TCM Squadron Five - consisting primarily KC-135 Stratotankers - patrolledGate Six used by all squadrons when not conducting combat missions or flying training flights outside gate areas during their assigned dayshift times period (10 am – 4 pm). EB2Cs continuedCFN patrols until March 1969 when they were replaced by ECFJs beginning Desert Storm operations with TF109s flown from CVG Miramar AFB effective April 2nd 1970 therefore ending EB2Cs participation with USAF during this conflict although some were rebased here until late 1990s elsewhere due ptsditioning etc.) The last EW patrol mission flown using EB2Cs occurred on September 10th 1991 when EF101s flew a CFN mission near Baghdad airport concurrent with Operation Desert Storm . By 1964, there were over 1,500707 planes in service with the USAF! During this time period, such famous pilots as John F Kennedy and Neil Armstrong became Flight Officers (FOs) on these planes! The Boeing 707 also had another great feature – it could be stored away easily for use when not being used. This made it perfect for military units all around the world. Additionally, since it had a range of up to 3,000 miles – which is almost twice that of any other plane at that time – it was perfect for moving troops around or bringing supplies back home from battlefields or countries like Vietnam or Korea. Finally, because of its relatively low price tag ($145 million USD at press time),707 airplanes quickly became popular among governments all over the world as well!

It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area and is adjacent to Pacific Beach on its east side and Brentwood on its west side. The land now comprising Palos Verdes Estates was first inhabited by the Tongva people. A group of Spanish soldiers under Lieutenant Don Fernando de la Rúa discovered this area during their invasion of southern California in 1769. The presidio and mission were founded by Franciscan missionaries in 1776 and named after Saint Peter and Saint Francis Xavier. The Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded nearby in 1817. During the late 19th century, Palos Verdes Estates became one of Southern California's wealthiest communities because it developed along the railroad network that connected Los Angeles with points farther north than any other incorporated town or city at that time. Manufacturing began here in earnest after World War II with plants such as GM’s Buick plant (now known as Mazda) opening up along Interstate 5 between Orange County and Riverside County; Singer Sewing Machines moving from Rochester, New York to an old mill site on present day South Boulevard; Ford Motor Company setting up a car manufacturing complex on what is now Palo Alto Drive; while others like Phillips 66 built oil refineries near the city limits. In 1959 General Electric moved its corporate headquarters from Newark, New Jersey to Stamford, Connecticut following their merger withElectric Boat Corporation which had been created just two years earlier by combining electric bus companies Elco Industries (later owned by GE) and American Bridge & Cable Corporation Today much of what made Palos Verdes Estates famous for its manufacturing has long since disappeared but it still retains a sense of community due to its many parks including Deer Park Recreation Center which opened in 1958; Santa Monica Pier which opened in 1929 followed by Hollywood Bowl seven years later; West Side Highway (now CenturyLink boulevard) being dedicated primarily to vehicular transportation with no retail stores or restaurants allowed within 1/4 mile thereof until 1978 when Trader Joe's First Store Opened near CenturyLink Stadium
The Palos Verdes Estates area was first settled in 1838 by John C. Fremont and his family. The area became a known gold mining district in the 1850s, and began to be developed as a town in 1867. The town was named for Major General James H. Palos, Commander of United States Troops in Mexico during the Mexican-American War. The first post office opened in 1870, and the first school was built in 1871. In 1911, the name of the town was changed to Torrance after California Governor Hiram Johnson turned down an offer from Mayor George Wickersham to rename the city after him.
