The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the people of Paradise, California in 1951. The gift was an installation at the nearby Vandenberg AFB that would house the new A-12 Bird Dog radar system. The installation was named for General Curtis LeMay, who served as commander of strategic Air Command during World War II and became known as the "Father of Strategic Air Forces."

The people who grew these fruit trees had to work hard because there was no other way to get food for their families. These same people also used to hunt and fishing in order to survive. The first European settlers arrived in this area in 1849 and started farming. They also built some small houses and gardens around the turn of the century. However, it wasn’t until 1946 that a group of Mormon missionaries came to this area and started teachingithing (a religion founded by Joseph Smith). After learning about this new religion, many people started coming to Palmyra for religious services. This area became known as “Paradise Valley” because of all of the beautiful flowers and plants that were found here. People would go into these areas during the wintertime in order to pick up some snowflakes ornaments that were either made from leaves or branches from tree limbs!

Over the next few years, however, their airpower grew rapidly and by 1955 they had over 1,000 planes. Today, USAF members continue to offer their service around the world and play an important role in defending our country from threats both domestic and international. It is through this service that we are able to maintain our global leadership position and provide humanitarian aid during time of need.

The area also boasted some of the earliest movie theaters in Southern California – including Regal Cinemas which opened in 1915 – as well as some of the most renowned chefs and restaurateurs in LA. In recent years, though, Paradise has seen significant redevelopment taking place throughout its core areas. This has resulted in increased traffic and pollution levels; additionally, it has lost some of its once-vibrant atmosphere. However, with continued investment from interested parties – including local businesses and philanthropists – there is likely still good potential for re-development within this rapidly growing neighborhood.
In 1846, California was Mexican property. The United States acquired it in 1848 and named it for the Hawaiian island of Hawai'i. In 1850, the US Congress passed a bill allowing Mormon missionaries to proselytize among the Native Americans in California. On November 12, 1850, Brigham Young and his followers left Nauvoo, Illinois for what would be their final settlement in Utah Territory. They began building a town on the site of modern-day Paradise Valley on January 24, 1851. The original name of the town was Kirtland but was changed to Paradise on February 15 because of objections from Mormons who claimed that they were living in paradise while others lived on earth in pain and misery. The town quickly grew into a booming center for LDS missionary work with over 20 missions established within its bounds by 1860. By 1870, most of what is now southern Nevada had been annexed by California as part of the state during the height of gold rush fever; however, Mormon missionaries continued to spread religious gospel throughout much of central and southern Nevada until about 1880 when they withdrew entirely due to changing social mores and competition from other denominations inside and outside Utah Territory.
