The history of the navy in Paramount, California began in 1887 when the first U.S. Navy ship was launched from the pier at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on Richmond's Inner Harbor. The USS Olympia (LST-5) was launched into service on October 25, 1887 and served until May 1, 1889 when she was decommissioned and sold to the Japanese Government for conversion into a naval airship carrier. The USS Makin (AO-11), also known as Yokosuka Maru No. 7, served as Japan's first seaplane carrier from 1915 to 1923 before being scrapped in 1924. In 1926, the United States Marine Corps acquired two ocean liner ships - SS Constitution and SS John F Kennedy - which were converted into barracks and used as a training base during World War II. It wasn't until 1942 that land became available for use by the navy at Point Conception Naval Station after years of excavation near Point Conception Village. In 1946, Nimitz Auditorium was built on Point Conception Naval Station to house sailors and their families during wartime rallies and ceremonies. Navy Fleet Week is celebrated every year in December with visiting warships from all over the world coming to see USS Enterprise (CVN 71) docked at Pier 31 on Long Beach Boulevard while thousands of troops parade down Vine Street in downtown Paramount for an afternoon event hosted by Mayor James Ritchie and others civic leaders

However, due to UAC's ownership of other studios including Columbia Pictures (now Sony Pictures), MGM was forced into bankruptcy in 1946. This left Universal Pictures as the only major distributor of Hollywood movies outside of New York City while smaller independents continued to make films at home until ceding control to Disney in 1998[2]. In 1948, Harry Cohn purchased United Artists Corporation for $3 million[3] which became 20th Century Fox Film Corporation[4]. Fox increased its production capabilities starting with RKO Radio Pictures who produced their first feature film – Slider – in 1924.[5] After several years of experimentation, William Wyler directed his breakthrough classic western epic Stagecoach at United Artists but it bombed at box office[6][7][8][9][10]ancoherent with studio policies that favouredRanked pictures over independent productions; this contributed heavily to UA's failure during the late 1940s.[11] In 1952,[12] William Morris Agency merged with 20th Century Fox Film Corporation forming what would become known asFilm Producers Guild International or simply The Guild; this move helped unify many producer groups across different studios under one banner allowing them greater power within Hollywood culture[13]. From here on out Warners would dominate American television production through their WB networks while UA continued producing high quality independent fare; this trend would continue until 1978 whenFox sold its entire entertainment empire to Time Warner for $3 billion (£2 billion). During these years much development occurred around downtown Paramount Center along West One Hundredfoot Street which would later be dubbed Sunset Strip due largely à la Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack residency there during those waning days before he moved northward into Beverly Hills
