Paramount is a city located in the Central Valley of California, United States. The population was 118,643 at the 2010 census. However, following World War II there was significant loss in jobs due to technological changes such as aluminum production moving to China which led to a decline in manufacturing around the country; however, this did not happen at Paramount where several large firms continued to operate until well into the 21st century including McDonnell Douglas Aviation which still employs many locals today. Today's economy primarily revolves around health care services (mainly outpatient clinics) with some light industrial activity; however, large employers have left since 2000 when Google parent company Alphabet announced plans to leave downtown Oakland for Menlo Park (though they plan on relocating some operations back downriver).
