Since the first enlisted man in the California Army was mustered into service on Nov. 6, 1846, the military has been a part of Californians' lives and culture. As one of United States’ oldest militaries, The California Army National Guard traces its roots back to 1852 when cavalry units were organized to fight in the Mexican-American War. In 1906, The California Militia was redesignated as an infantry regiment and activated at Fort Mason in San Francisco Bay Area. In 1912, The California Infantry Regiment became part of The United States Military Academy at West Point and was renamed as The 1st Battalion (The Golden Bears) Cal Warriors Infantry Regiment on Sept. 25th, 1912. On Jan 3rd 1917 Camp Simcoe opened its doors for training cadets from all over America for the French World War I draft. At this time There were only four battalions strength of infantrymen in the state of California so portions of Alameda County (east side), Contra Costa County (north side), Orange County (west side) and San Bernardino County were selected to form battalion headquarters with commando companies also formed therefrom including Company C (Los Angeles Rangers) which later became Company B Battalion 2nd Battalion 8th Infantry Regiment on Dec 15th 1916 while Company A continued being headquartered at Camp Simcoe until 1919 when they were again relocated toCamp Kean in Beaumont Hills near Los Angeles where they remained until 1923 when they moved to Camp Menninger located north of Sacramento between Sacramento and Placer Counties before finally disbanding on May 1st 1934 at Ft Riley near Topeka Kansas after serving throughout World Wars I II Korea Vietnam mainland China US occupation Japanese occupation

Parlier is a small town in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. The population was 5,854 as of 2010. It is located in Humboldt County, and it is part of the Modesto metropolitan area. The history of Parlier dates back to 1849 when it was named for George Parlier, an early settler in adjacent Redding. The current community was founded on a farmstead that still stands today. In 1881, the first post office opened in Parlier, and the name was changed to honor Reverend John A. Parlier (1838-1907). ReverendParlier purchased land at what is now the southeast corner of Main and First Streets in 1886. He donated this land to build a Presbyterian church which he helped finance and begin construction in 1889. The church – known as First Presbyterian Church – became operational on July 1, 1890. Finally, on November 1, 1909, the community received its official name:Parlier after Rev. John A., Jr., who had been instrumental in helping to make it a reality. Today’s economy revolves around agriculture and ranching; however, some industries that have grown significant here over time include manufacturing (including cheese production), services (such as accounting and law), research institutions (including UC Davis) and educational establishments such as Humboldt State University and Modesto Junior College/High School District No 4A (a public school district serving students from grades 9 through 12).
