In 1984, Harry and Mildred's son Don Weiser reopened the coffee house under the name of Donny & Associates. In 1995, Donny & Associates purchased the property from Harry and Mildred Weiser's daughter-in-law Joy Gelberding. Parlier, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. It is located on the eastern edge of the San Gabriel Mountains and has a population of over 74,000. The current mayor of Parlier is Jerry Ortiz. The area that would become Parlier was first occupied by the Tongva people who lived there for many years before moving to present-day Riverside County in 1845. In 1864, American soldiers burned down the village in what is now called “The Great Fire” which caused great damage to the town. The next year, however, General George Armstrong Custer and his troops destroyed most of the buildings in Parlier during their failed attempt to cross the Mojave Desert from Southern California into Nevada. This event is also recognized as being one of the few times military action directly impacted civilian life in Orange County at that time. In 1886, Jordon & Phelps platted and built what would become downtown Parlier on land they had purchased from José Altamirano de la Costa y Valdez. Development continued until 1915 when World War I forced them to sell most of their holdings back to la Costa y Valdez for $10 per acre due to government restrictions on development within wartime zones. The city actually began developing again after World War II with new housing developments such as Heritage Place and Valley Village coming into being throughout downtown Parlier as well as new shopping districts off Broadway Avenue east and west of Market Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue (the current location of City Hall). After years of growth spurt following Downtown Parlier's incorporation into city limits in 1959, Mayor Elmer Aiken ordered an arterial road bypassing downtown so traffic could flow more easily through parishes east and west of it – effectively cancelling out much older residential neighborhoods along Broadway Avenue between First Avenue and Second Avenues (then known as “Old Town”) which were now completely surrounded by commercial areas devoid of any real community life or access points other than Interstate 10 passing nearby).
