Parlier, California is a small town located in the Mojave Desert of southern California. The population was 2,316 at the 2010 census. It is part of Mono County. The first permanent settlement in Parlier was established by George Parlier in 1853. He and his wife, Lilla Cranch, founded an adobe rancho that included land for farming and grazing on the edge of what is now the town. A post office was established in 1854, and remained in operation until it merged with Groveland to form Groveland-Parlier-Groveland in 1912. In 1861, John Hargrave settled a homestead east of the present day business district within present day Parlier limits. From 1861 until 1890, all settlements within modern-day Parlier were "creek towns." These towns were named after either waterways or mountain ranges that overlooked them: White Sands Creek; Sunrise Valley Creek; Black Mesa Canyon Creek; San Andreas River; and Inyo Mountains National Monument (near today's Lyonville). After becoming an incorporated municipality on December 15, 1915 (by resolution of the board), Parlier began to develop its current streetscape while still maintaining its creek town name system which lasted until 1967 when all new municipalities were given their full name according to state law - Monrovia instead of "Creek Town". "Monrovia" became the full name on January 1st 1978 following passage of Proposition 218 which designated Monza as the official seat for Mono County purposes only. The old creek town name continued to be used by residents outside of Monrovia."

Parlier is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is located in Kern County. The community was founded by Swiss immigrants in 1868, and named after the Parlier Glacier. The first church was built in 1870 and dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. In 1916, Parlier had its own school system which still exists today. In 1950,Parlier became an incorporated town when it merged with nearby Ioneville. In 1973, Parlier-Ioneville amalgamated again to form Parlier-Newhall because of a lack of available land east of Interstate 5 for development. Parlier was founded in 1857 by George and Anna Parlier. The Parlers had come to California from New York City, where George Parlier had been a banker. They were the first white people to set foot in what is now Sacramento County. In 1858, they started a business trading goods between their farmstead and the town of Amador. They soon became known as the "Valley Merchants." In 1862, the Parlers married Mary Jane Mayo, who would later become one of the most important women figures in Sacramento County history. The couple moved to Rosedale (now part of West Sacramento) and started a grocery store there. In 1865, they acquired land east of Rosedale and built a house there which served as their home until 1978. In 1865, they also founded what is now known as the Sacaton-Parlier School District.
