Parlier, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 2,182 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Bakersfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town started as a small community on the east side of Kern River and grew as it became an agricultural center for the surrounding area. In 1864, Parlier was designated as the seat of government for Kern County by act of Congress under then-President Abraham Lincoln. During World War II, Parlier was one of several local communities that operated airfields for military use in the area. In recent years,Parlier has experienced a resurgence in its economy due to its location close to both Imperial Valley and Bakersfield cities. The town's main street is named after Mayor Harry Cavanaugh who served from 1978 until his death in 2006.

Parlier is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The community was founded in 1887 by George Parlier and his wife, Emma. It became a post office in 1907 and a city in 1913. The population was 5,080 as of 2010. George Parlier was an early settler in the area and he built his first home on what is now the eastern edge of town. He also developed land east of town which later became part of Rancho Bernardo. George Parlier's son, Harry, married Emma Ladd and they continued to live there until their death in 1925. They had six children: Viola Parlier (1901-1984), Franklin DParlier (1902-1974), Alice BParlier (1904-1992), Harold HParlier (1906-1972), and John FParlier (1908-1983). In 1907, George Parrier's grandson, John FParrier, moved to Parlier from nearby Livermore and started the first grocery store in the community. In 1916, he opened another store called The Grapes at 5th Street and Elm Avenue. In 1927, he bought out his grandfather's share in the business and renamed it The Grapes&Grapevine Inc." Over time John FParrier added other items such as gasoline stations to his empire including one on College Avenue near where Interstate 5 meets Highway 99 today. The city boundaries were changed several times over the years; however, most notably when it became part of Stockton after that city's annexation by Sacramento County in 1922. At its height around 1930 there were over fifty businesses operating within the limits ofparliereny City Limits". As with most small towns during this time period, economic development relied heavily upon agriculture; however during World War II many local jobs went into production for California Military Government units located throughout Northern California including at nearby El Dorado Lake Naval Air Station which would become known as “Plymouth” after Glendora Municipal Airport adjacent to parliesite
