The town of Parlier, California was founded in 1868 by George H.Parlier and his wife, Fanny W. Parlier. The town began as a small farmstead on the edge of the Rincon Mountains, about 12 miles northeast of San Francisco. In 1870, George H.Parlier became the first white settler in what would be called the Rancho Seco area of present-day California. From this rancho, Parlier developed a successful farming business which he sold to other pioneers who followed him to the area around Parlier. In 1872, George H.Parlier and his wife built a log cabin on their farmstead which they named "Rancho Seco." From this rancherosame (and later) became one of Northern California's most famous towns because its residents made significant contributions to early Californian history including helping to found Sacramento County and leading efforts to build several important statewide institutions such as the State Capitol and University of California at Berkeley. Citizens of Rancho Seco voted in 1912 to form an incorporated municipality known as "Parlier." The incorporation was approved by voters three years earlier but never came into effect because it lacked funding from local government coffers. In 1935, however, Mayor John Condon directed City Manager Harry Ahern to begin considering incorporation within Parlier limits based on increasing population growth and other pressing needs within the township. On July 1st, 1935 - just five months after Mayor Condon's directive - incorporation finally took place with Parlieren residents voting overwhelmingly in favor of becoming a self-governing community governed by a board composed mostly of their own citizens plus one representative from each school district serving parlieren Township boundaries northward along I-5W; eastward along Interstate Highway 101; southward along State Route 395 (now US Highway 101). Over time, many members of both the original Board & ensuing administrations have left or passed away – making today's governance structures unique among American towns with similar histories/governance arrangements; something that has contributed significantly to the town's strong sense of identity and community pride dating back more than 100 years!
