The United States Air Force gift history of Pasadena, California begins with the establishment in 1947 of the Air Force Materiel Command. This command was in response to the establishment in 1945 of the USAF Ground Forces. The primary purpose of AMC was to manage and administer all USAF materials base facilities and areas within 30 miles of Los Angeles, as well as those located at Edwards Air Force Base and other airfields throughout California. In addition, AMC also managed all USAF aircraft stationed in California. AMSG (later known as AFMC) took over management of RAF Benson during World War II, which had been a RAF station until 1941. It was from RAF Benson thatAAF commenced operations against Japan on 7 September 1940 with an attack on Rabaul airfield using two B-17 Flying Fortress bombers under flypast conditions by American Strategic Bombing Survey Squadron Eighteen (SB 818). Withdrawal from RAF Benson began on 1 October 1946 and AFB Santa Ana became operational concurrent with it under AMC control. The first AFMC unit to arrive at ASA was 3d Fighter Wing (3 FW), activated on 15 October 1946 at San Bernardino Municipal Airport. At that time there were only 12 F-86F Sabre jets assigned to 3 FW! However, because it would be almost 10 years before any more squadrons would join 3 FW, this is not really a meaningful statement about AFBSanta Ana’s gift history until today! AMSG continued managing RAF Beaconsfield after its closure in 1951 but transferred all assets and functions to San Bernardino Municipal Airport effective 1 November 1951 due to the increased aviation activity at ASA resulting from federally funded research projects conducted by NASA at nearby Kirtland Air National Guard Base. AFMC initially operated out of three main commands: Aerospace Support Services Command (ASSC), Tactical Air Command (TAC), and Aircraft Maintenance Commands (AMC). As ASSC grew larger they split into two subordinate commands: Headquarters Allied Expeditionary forces Weapons Control Section – Europe/Africa Theater commanded by Colonel James Doolittle Jr., commander for support activities within NATO forces; Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces Weapons Control Section – Pacific Southwest headquartered under General Curtis LeMay; Headquarters United States Army Military Intelligence Agency commanding officer for Western Hemisphere Operations; Headquarters Far East Service Division commanded by Brigadier General John Airey; HQ United States Army Intelligence Agency concurrently when HQ USISA disbanded on 31 July 1949 replaced by Directorate for Plans Research -USAF which later became Directorate for Intelligence Activities -CIA . After World War II many new items were produced including engines used in jet aircraft such as turbojet technology development started early in WWII while piston engine designs stagnated until late war when American companies like Pratt & Whitney came up with their own designs AMSG moved most material storage back into civilian hands following World War II although much remained housed at RAF Beaconsfield whereupon USAF handed over management effective 1 November 1951 citing increased aviation activity at ASA resultant from federally funded research projects conducted by NASA at nearby Kirtland Air National Guard Base

The history of Pasadena can be traced back to 1879 when Isabella Maria Hidalgo y Costilla purchased land from José María Escobedo for $1,000. The town was named after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who had commanded an army during the Mexican-American War. Santa Anna founded Mission San Gabriel Arcángel on some Rancho La Brea property east of what is now downtown Pasadena. In 1887, following passage of the law providing for annexation by Los Angeles County, local farmers formed a group to petition county officials to annex their lands leading to the founding of what would become Pasadena. On July 4th, 1890, at 4:00 p.m., Mayor James Payson opened the first post office in what became known as "theTownships." The name was changed to "Pasadena" on December 3rd due to objections from residents who felt that it sounded like "passerelle," or a French word meaning 'to pass.' In 1907 Johnnie Buzz Aldrin became one of two American astronauts (the other being Neil Armstrong) who walked on Mars while wearing his ownmx space suit equipped with landing gear that he constructed himself out Of old tires and wood leftover from flying planes developed for World War II construction projects over Orange County

The USAF gift history dates back to the early days of the United States Air Force. In 1947, when the USAF was created, it consisted of only two wings - the Ninth and Tenth. The wing commanders were Major General Hoyt S. Vandenberg (9th Wing commander) and Colonel John Fetterman (10th Wing commander). The Ninth Wing was activated on 1 September 1947 at Randolph AFB, Texas. It was commanded by Major General Hoyt S. Vandenberg and had a strength of just over 100 officers and enlisted men. In 1948, the Tenth Wing was activated at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio. It was commanded by Colonel John Fetterman and had a strength of just over 150 officers and enlisted men. In 1949, both Wings were redesignated as Fighter Commands - Ninth under Major General Hoyt S. Vandenberg and Tenth under Colonel John Fetterman - with their headquarters located at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. On 1 October 1950, Eighth Air Force became part of the USAF through merger with Seventh Air Force; this left Maxwell AFB as the lone USAF base without an airframe storage facility for aircraft! The decision was made to close Maxwell AFB in 1951 due to budgetary constraints; however, it reopened again in 1954 after being renovated for air defence purposes only! In 1956-1957 both wings underwent significant expansion with new buildings being constructed at Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs; these included replacement fighter squadrons (the Fourth Fighter Squadron fromSTRATCOM's First Tactical Fighter Wing being Added), Headquarters/ Commander Air Forces Special Operations Command (HCSOC), Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces Europe (HQAEF), II Bomber Command's Bombardment Division (later renamed I Bomber Command) - all within one large complex!. Additionally retiring combat aircraft were replaced by more modern types such as Boeing 707s or Lockheed L-7A1s! In total there were now six wing commands comprising all 50 contiguous United States Air Forces! This growth continued into 1958 when Second Tactical Fighter Wing was added to HCSPO while Third Tactical FighterWing became operational on 14 April 1959...all within one year ! This rapid expansion led to problems which would cause much strain later on during the 1960s...
Pasadena, California is a city in Los Angeles County, California. It was founded on November 4, 1871 by James E. Russell and Alameda Fillmore as a result of the merger of two small towns, Pasadena and West Pasadena. The population was 54,844 at the 2010 census. The earliest known inhabitants of what is now Pasadena were the Tongva people. In 1769, mission leaders decided to move the San Gabriel Mission south due torising religious tensions between the Jesuits and other Indian groups living near Santa Monica Bay. A group of Spanish soldiers led by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo sailed into Los Angeles Harbor on July 29, 1781 and claimed land north of Monterey Peninsula for Spain. The first permanent Anglo-American settlers arrived in 1836 when John Sutter opened his Forty Acres Ranch which included present day Pasadena.[1] In 1871, James E. Russell purchased 2 acres (0.8 km2) east of Houston Street from George Wickersham for $220[2] in what would become Pasadena; he named it after his British friend Alameda Fillmore who had helped him purchase land east of Los Angeles Boulevard during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). With its broad boulevard frontage and proximity toLos Angeles Regional Airport (LAG), Pasadena quickly became an important commercial center within southern Los Angeles County; it soon joined with nearby West Pasadena as one of southern Californias largest cities [3]. In 1914,[4] Mayor Amos Bickford established City Hall on North Main Street[5], which remain today as one of downtowns most popular attractions;[6][7][8] however much civic activity took place outside City Hall untilafter World War II when City Hall becamethe main downtown attraction again following passageof ordinances establishing community councils with limited authority over public safety streets [9].
