It lies on the San Gabriel River and is bordered by Arcadia to the north, Monrovia to the east, Garden Grove to the south and west and Santa Paula to the northwest. The namesake of Pasadena is a small creek that runs through its center. The area now called Pasadena was first inhabited by Native Americans including Mono and Tongva people. In 1827, Mexican traders founded what would become Los Angeles on a bluff overlooking the river. In 1853, Pasadena became an incorporated municipality with a Mayoralty office at 4th Street and Main Avenue.
