The Patterson Army National Guard's (AAG) Soldiers and Sailors are some of the most dedicated and patriotic individuals in California. The AAG has a rich history dating back to 1851 when it was organized as the Sacramento Battalion, California Volunteers. It was during World War II that the AAG became one of the first military organizations in California to enlist in the Armed Forces. Since its inception, the Patterson Army National Guard has participated in numerous campaigns and engagements throughout California. Some of these include Operation Neptune's Spear, Desert Storm, and Battle for Bastogne. In honor of their service, the AAG has released several commemorative items including an officially recognize for distinction memberships in various Military Organizations; a set of insignia for officers; a sword awarded to an enlisted soldier for bravery or heroism; and flags flown at half-mast on various occasions. Today, there are over 4500 active duty soldiers and sailors from across California serving our nation with distinction.
