From this rancho several smaller ranches were developed including Rancho Los Alamitos (now part of Interstate 5) on , Rancho Santa Anita on northeast corner of Spring Street/Donner Pass Road/Rancho Arroyito off northeast corner Hwy 169 about southeast from Fort Irwin; and finally Rancho San Bernardino del Norte off northeastern corner Hwy 169 about northwest from Fort Irwin where it crossed Donner Pass into Mexico Territory after Mexican independence from Spain in 1912 Old landmarks still extant within town limits include: Pioneer Monument near Sather Drive/Euclid Avenue; Masonic Lodge #5 on First Street NE; Methodist Episcopal Church built 1863 at 4th & Main Streets NE; California Schoolhouse built 1860 at 2nd & Main Streets NE; Artesian well drilled 1861 near Eucalyptus trees just east of main street between Sather Drive & Euclid Avenue

It became a thriving local agricultural center during the early 1800s, before becoming a manufacturing town during the late 1800s and into the 1900s. The area now known as Perris was first inhabited by Native American nations for centuries before European settlement began. In 1849, Mexican settlers arrived in what is now Perris and soon after, a small ranch called La Hacienda de los Fuegos was established in what is now downtown Perris. The early years of this ranch were marked by prosperity and success, but it eventually fell victim to economic conditions and nepotism. By 1870, most of the Mexicans had left the area for various reasons including violence or poverty; however, some remained behind to manage Rancho Los Fuegos until it was sold to Englishman Leland Stanford in 1899. With new growth opportunities present in the areas around San Bernardino County following World War II, Rancho Los Fuegos quickly became one of Santa Monica County’s most successful ranches with high production values. However, like many other Southern California ranching operations during this time period it struggled with increasing competition from Northern Californian ranchers as well as changes in technology that made grazing more efficient and less dependent on manpower. Despite these challenges over time Rancho Los Fuegos continued to be an important part of Santa Monica County’s economy and culture until its sale to another landowner in 1984
