At its peak during World War II, the city had a population of 100,000 people and was one of Southern California's largest cities known for its Chevrolet dealerships and movie studios such as Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox and Paramount Pictures locations like Regal Cinemas and Olympic Stadiums which still exist today as office complexes or housing developments; however today much less use is made due to rapid growth within adjacent communities such as Murrieta and Corona which have outgrown Perris' infrastructure while perusing its numerous shopping malls featuring large chains like Macy's and Sears formal dining establishments (euphemistically called "Mallrats") giving it an image similar to neighboring Scotts Valley despite having no significant industry present save for some small agricultural operations providing feedstock for local pet food stores).

Perris is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 24,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Perris Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The city is named after George A. Perris and his brothers John and Michael Perrus, who first settled there in 1867. The first human settlement in what became Perris was by two brothers George A. and Michael Perriss whoplanted some grapes near their rancho east of town on Feb 8th 1865 [1]. They were followed soon after by John Purdy who platted a townsite here on Apr 3rd 1865 [2]. In 1868 – 1870 three other pioneers from Kentucky came to this area and platted townships called Indian Wells (now West Covina) & San Bernardino (now Spring Valley). Some time later that year an additional five pioneer men arrived from Illinois: James Sperry, Hiram Smith, Asahel Greenough and Elijah Goodrich with land grants for $10 each [3]. At about this time there were around 25 people living within the present limits of town including 10 or 12 farmers and ranchers with one or two mills working especially during off-peak hours when water can be had for free from springs near the townsite [4]. Today’s boundaries still reflect these original early settlements as they are located approximately seven miles north-northwest of downtown on State Route 61 between Rancho Mirage (then known as First Street) to the south side of Alpine Boulevard thenSR 61 turns east coming to perris center just past milepost 20 road map #4 on USGS Maps 1&2 . There are also references to a post office being established at “Saddleback” but no evidence has ever been found documenting this fact so it is presumed that this refers to Indian Wells Township which would have encompassed today’s west side of SR 61 between First Street/Alpine Boulevard area now occupied by Winnetka Avenue & Weingarten Road while direct mail service continued until at least 1911 when it stopped at what is now Rancho Mirage Rd., just beyond milepost 21 Map #4 on USGS Maps 1&2 !!! After arriving here George A./Michael built a gristmill which functioned until 1872 when fire destroyed it downstream in Redlands creek making production difficult so they reassembled the mill upstream where it operated until 1903 when another fire destroyed it again making restarting more problematic than before !!! By 1882 there were only 5 inhabitants left within present limits although Adobe Walls had been erected circa 1860 as part as boundary marker between present day East Covina Township & San Bernardino County line !!!! Thereafter growth rapidly occurred due largely to various factors such as gold discoveries occurring nearby (the Earliest discovery being made south down Pershing Road about 100 feet below surface), railroad construction entering town via Main Street during periodic track maintenance work happening along Tracks 14/15 which passed through town late 1800′s concurrent with growing trade associated with many new businesses established throughout those years !! Nichols Brothers Mercantile opened up shop here in 1886 becoming one of early mainstays in local community !!!!!!!!!! acquired by JBS Lumber Co., 1915; closed Dec 1957
