The Perris War Memorial Museum has a rich military history dating back to the early days of the county. In 1851, the California Legislature passed an act appropriating $5,000 for the erection of a war memorial in honor of the men and women who have lost their lives in engagements with Indians. The first memorial was dedicated on October 29, 1852 by Colonel J. H. Simonds. A second memorial was erected in 1854 by Captain John Sutter. The third and final monument was dedicated on November 14, 1896 by General Hugh Wadleigh.
Perris, California is a town located in Inyo County, California. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is Spanish for "peaceful haven." The name was given to the community by General John Blyth in 1855 as a result of his campaign against the Comanches. The first post office in Perris opened on July 14, 1876. It was called Ponderosa and operated under ownership of Captain Charles Post. On November 15, 1880, it became part of Inyo County when it was incorporated as a town. The first mayor was C.W. Hiltzik with Jno Ayer serving as treasurer and Wm Henson as justice of peace. The townsite has been home to numerous businesses including Myer's Department Store which opened its doors in 1914 and remains one of the most iconic stores in Perris today; Kresson's Tire & Rubber Company which began production on December 8, 1928 and closed its doors in 2003; First American Savings Bank which opened its doors on October 1, 1907; and finally Albertsons supermarkets that have anchored the communities since 1984 including SuperTarget and Grocery Outlet Plaza (now Walmart). Today there are over 100 small businesses operating within the boundaries of Perris with an average sizeof 3-5 employees and many more larger companies that provide services or goods to millions of customers annually through local brick-and-mortar establishments across Perris Valley Mall (opened in 1984), Ixiong Mall (opened in 1990), Northridge Center (opened in 2000) - all located just outside downtown Perris - as well as several dozen internet cafes dotting every nook and cranny throughout this vibrant community!

The first store in Perris opened on Main Street in 1902. The post office closed in 1963 and the town incorporated in 1965. In 1969, Perris became home to the worlds first self-service coin operated laundry and dryer chain with over 100 locations throughout California and Nevada. In 1978, Perris became an anchor for HBO's "True Blood". On July 24, 1984, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck central Kern County causing extensive damage including 82 fatalities and $2 billion in losses statewide. One member of the perris Chamber of Commerce said it was one of most difficult shocks he had ever experienced: "It knocked out power for hours... people were screaming for help." Perris has been host to several events during this time such as the 1990 Golden State Warriors' championship parade which featured then-coach Rick Majerus and players Klay Thompson (then with the Portland Trail Blazers) Eric Bledsoe (then with Phoenix Suns), Shawn Kemp (then with Philadelphia 76ers) and Penny Hardaway (now playing with Orlando Magic). Additionally, on October 15th 2007, American Idol winner Chris Brown made an appearance at halftime during their game against rival Riverside City College before performing his song "Fancy" live on stage at Civic Auditorium afterwards

The Perris brothers became successful ranchers, shipping goods from their ranch to Los Angeles and other cities.
