The Petaluma, California Army Depot was founded in 1936 as the Morrell Arsenal. It served as a facility for the development of artillery and armor during World War II. The depot also manufactured ammunition and other military equipment. The depot closed its doors in 1984, but it reopened in 1996 as the Petaluma Army Ammunition Plant. Since then, the plant has been responsible for manufacturing munitions for both the US and Japanese militaries. In 2006, the plant celebrated 50 years of production with a series of birthday parties and fireworks displays.

The Petaluma Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1886 by a group of men from Petaluma. The department has grown over the years to include a battalion, six fire companies, and eighteen firefighters. In 2018, the department celebrated its 150th anniversary.
Petaluma is a small city in Marin County, California. The population was 8,362 at the 2010 census. It is located on Hwy 1 about 20 miles north of Sausalito and 30 miles south of Tiburon. The first Europeans to visit Petaluma were Frédéric Joliot de La Roche and his brother Émile in 1795. They named it Point Reyes after their ship, the Point Reyes Expedition, which had set sail from Monterey Bay with supplies for fur traders in 1804. The town began as a Native American settlement called "Palo Alto" near what is now downtown Petaluma. In 1868, prospectors discovered gold near where Hwy 1 crosses the San Andreas Fault and soon there was an influx of people seeking fortune in the new goldfield. By 1875, Petalula had a post office, school and business district. In 1906–07, William Randolph Hearst built his own mansion on petunias outside of Petaluma while he resided in Redondo Beach; this house still stands today (and has been used as a hotel). He donated land to build Hearst High School which opened its doors in 1917. In 1925 Hearst's son Roger founded Roger's Donuts restaurant here which continues to operate today as one of America's most popular doughnut shops During World War II many local businesses helped produce munitions for the war effort including various foundries such as Pohlman & Kopp & Sons Tool Works (now part of Mecom) that produced artillery barrels and other items needed for war production On July 3rd 1942 Japanese bombers dropped two bombs on downtown Petaluma killing twenty-six people and injuring fifty-four . Many local citizens worked tirelessly to clean up the aftermath with little notice or recompense given to them following what would become known as "the bomb attacks". Afterwards more than seventy years later many members of Local 7982 United Steelworkers Union Local 821 started picketing Chevron oil refineries outside Santa Ana after company executives made false statements about refinery emissions during public hearings

The American Revolution began in 1775, and during this time there was a great demand for military supplies. So, among other things, Congress authorized the printing of money to be used specifically for supplying the American forces. This allowed soldiers to purchase goods they couldn't get at home without breaking laws. In 1812, Congress passed a law which provided for giving pensions to Revolutionary War veterans. This act also contributed to America's love of military spending over the years. In 1903, Congress authorized giving medals and awards as rewards for heroism in war. These Medals Of Honor are now known throughout America as "The Hero's Medal." Finally, in 1946 Congress appropriated funds specifically for education about World War II service members who have died in battle or since then have received no pension or award from our government

Petaluma is a small town in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 5,549 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Petaluma River and has a land area of only . The first humans to live in what is now Petaluma were Native Americans who occupied the region from about 20 acres (8 ha) of forested land grant by Governor Edmund Sutter to his friend and business associate Jedediah Smith in 1847. A post office called "Petaluma" was established in 1851, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1870, J.P. Morgan included Petaluma as part of a plan to build new highways across California so that railroad companies could be connected with other parts of the country more easily. The town became an important transportation center due to its location near both Sam Adams Brewery on Petaluma Creek and wire-mesh bridges over the creek used by trains traveling between Marin County and San Francisco. From 1865 until1868, many of Petalula's residents had served as soldiers during the Mexican–American War while others worked on farms or ranching operations around Sonoma County outside of town limits. On October 1, 1867—the date which would have been Californio Day—a large fire destroyed most of downtown Petaluma when it began burning down part of an old flour mill complex owned by John Dutton & Sons; after two days the fire had reached 6 acres (2 ha) with 100% contained within 10 hours even though there were several firefighters assigned to try unsuccessfully to put out small fires all over downtown; this incident led General Mariano Vallejo to order all state troops not be employed on Californio day because they might become involved in civil disturbances which he knew would occur if these men were free from military control Notable people born or resident here include:
