Petaluma is located in the East Bay of San Francisco, and has been known for its coffee since at least the 18th century. In 1847, Petaluma became the first town in California to be organized as a city. The town's first coffee house was built on Third Street. By 1870, Petaluma had become one of the most important coffee-growing areas in California. In 1916, Anton Czapinski founded Jardin Coffee & Tea Company in Petaluma. This company was instrumental in helping to revive interest in coffee throughout California. In 1938, Jardin merged with rival Dobrudzinski Coffee Company to form Dobrudzinski-Jardin Corporation. The corporation continued to produce quality coffee until it closed its doors in 1984.
Petaluma is a small town in the East Bay region of California, United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Petaluma Peninsula on the north shore of San Francisco Bay. The name Petaluma comes from petunias (UPenn Laboratoryargonum), which grew abundantly in the area during early 18th century Rancho Petaluma's mission period. The town was founded in 1853 by Captain George Applegate and his wife Eliza Bancroft as "Apteluma". In 1864, Colonel John Sutter acquired land in what is now Petaluma and abandoned Apteluma for it. In 1865 Captain George Applegate sold his interest in Apteluma to Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail who renamed it "Morse Point", then "Petaluma" after their sponsor Samuel Morse. In 1870, when American Pacific Railroad began construction across San Francisco Bay, workers erected a structure at what is now Terminal 4 for loading and unloading goods. The company made an unsuccessful attempt to rename the town after its new station location – until Commodore Perry delivered a oration denouncing the act to a crowd of some 10,000 people assembled at Golden Gate Park that summer entitled "The Review of Progress" - henceforth known as "Perry's rally". In 1876 Governor Ralph Cushing designated Petaluna as one of two towns along with Concord (New England) about which he wrote: "I purpose making both places my halting place while I am upon this arduous journey...I also propose that they should furnish me with 500 boys able to work all winter." When Interstate 5 was built through Contra Costa County in 1959–60, part of it included right-of-way through downtown Petalula giving rise to a popular moniker - ""Downtown Dogtown"" - although no definitive proof exists that dogs ever roamed Main Street prior to freeway construction; nor did dogtown exist before 1965. Today most businesses have moved away from Downtown Dogtown towards University Ave., Northshore Blvd & Masonic Rd.. Although there are few physical remains remaining from old downtown petalingula during Prohibition days such as speakeasy Chinatown behind First National Bank building & whore house on Third St., businesses present today include several Chinese restaurants (& three pizza places) adjacent to Kaiser Permanente medical center close by; microbrewerylightnin' Brewery between Masonic & University Aves.; gas station nearby upon turning off Interstate 5 near State Route 30;andSeveral large homes were once occupied by local farmers but are now used for apartments or commercial purposes including Wineries Vineyards & Market Place Inn restaurant inside Old Mission Adobe Historic District park boundaries

Some include: -Cup-a-Joe, which is a type of small café that specializes in cup of joe coffee. -The roaster who produces the beans and makes the drinks, often refers to themselves as an "artisanal" coffee company. This term comes from their use of hand-selected beans and roasted in small batches. Some other terms used to describe artisanal coffee include: -"microBrewed", meaning that the beans were brewed in smaller batches and then canned for distribution on a limited basis; -"baked", being made with whole grains or unbleached white flour instead of sugar or milk; and -"small batch", being made only once or twice a year rather than every week like regular coffee production.
Petaluma was founded on April 17, 1847 by men from the town of Petaluma in Sonoma County. The town was named after petunias that grew wild in the area. The first post office in Petaluma opened on May 1, 1847. By 1861, the population had grown to 302 and the towns were incorporated as a city. The city experienced rapid growth due to its location at the mouth of Napa River and its role within vineyards and farming areas. In 1902, Petaluma became one of 14 California cities that joined what is now known as the Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART). In 1966, BART merged with two other Bay Area Rapid Transit systems, becoming part of the San Francisco Bay Transportation Authority (SFBA). After years of discussion and planning, BART built a new station in downtown Petaluma and began service on November 1, 1976.

Theodore Roosevelt visited Petaluma in 1909 while campaigning for president and spoke at a rally attended by local residents. On October 16, 1916, during World War I, Petaluma joined the United States as an official city within California. On November 14, 1938, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor andbombed Los Angeles County while American forces were fighting against Japanese troops elsewhere in California; this event is known as the "Pearl Harbor Attack." As a result of the attack, many people fled to Petaluma or other nearby cities; however, most of the businesses closed down due to lack of customers or insurance concerns. On December 12, 1951, Epson Corporation announced that it would be moving its headquarters from San Francisco to Petaluma; this event is considered to be one of the beginning points of PETRONAS' corporate expansion into new markets worldwide during the 1950s and 1960s
