Petaluma is a small city located in Marin County, California, about 19 miles northeast of San Francisco. As of the 2010 census, its population was 10,569. The name Petaluma comes from petrel (a seagull) and Apply (a place to land). The town was founded on November 3, 1853 by J.P. Allis and his wife Mary Todd Lincoln during the Gold Rush era as a result of their discovery of gold nuggets at an old mill site in nearby Sausalito. The first post office in Petaluma opened on December 21, 1853. The town became incorporated on April 14, 1856. In 1870 it passed a resolution creating a fire department and appointing Prentice Haughton as its first captain; Haughton was also the founder of Houghton College (now Stanford University). At that time Petaluma had only one store and two schools - both were built near downtown by 1861 when the railroad arrived. During World War II Petaluma served as an airfield for bombers flying over Northern California while also becoming home to Naval Air Station Alameda which housed jets from 1945 until 1948 when it moved to NAS Torrance Calif.. On February 9th 1957 voters approved passage of Measure B which authorized the acquisition by Petalula of 150 acres east of Highway 1 south-central portion for use as open space including parkland and/or housing developments with no market value whatsoever; this land would become known as North Beach State Recreation Area today! In 1969 Mayor Dory Semon appointed Dick Glickman Manager Of Planning And Development for Community Services Bureau where he directed development through zoning changes that created new neighborhoods such as Westshore Park and East Palo Alto which are still functioning today! In 1978 Glickman left Community Services Bureau to become Regional Coordinator For Housing & Economic Development With responsibility for all aspects related to housing development within City Limits – now known as District 6! From there he Specialized In Neighborhood Planning Which led To His Present Position As Director Of Planning For City Wide Programs! In 1647, Dutch traders discovered Java and began trading with the local people for coffee. In 1811, a British trader namedJohn Stephenson found coffeegrowing on the island of Sumatra and started shipping it back to London. In 1976, Indonesia became an independent country and production of Indonesian coffee ceased.
Petaluma was founded in 1847 by John Sutter and his family. The town was named after Petaluma, a small valley in southern California, which the Sutter family explored during their 1846 Gold Rush campaign. By 1850, Petaluma had become a thriving community with several businesses and a population of around 100 people. In 1854, the first post office opened in the town. By 1860, Petaluma had developed into a agricultural center with over 120 businesses and 2,000 residents. In 1865, the first railroad arrived in Petaluma with plans to connect it with San Francisco. However, due to its remote location and lack of infrastructure, Petalula remained an isolated community until the late 1800s when it began to experience rapid growth as an agricultural center and seaport for citrus exports. During this time period, Petaluma also became known for its renowned football team – which won three consecutive state championships from 1895-1897. In 1912, during World War I, the town offered its citizenships to military personnel in order to support their war effort. After the war ended in 1918 however, petalingua declined rapidly as new industries emerged such as engineering and mining that replaced agriculture within local communities throughout California. Despite this decline however; petalingua continue to be an important part of Californian culture through annual festivals such as Oktoberfest (the largest beer festival in North America) and Hammerfest (a traditional hayride). Today; petalingua is still one of California's most vibrant towns with lively nightlife options along with some of its most popular tourist attractions including its namesake Valley Park which features beautiful views of Mount Diablo while also hosting several concerts each year including The Golden State Warriors’ home game against Sacramento Kings on October 17th!
