Pico Rivera, California is an agricultural town in San Bernardino County, California. It is located on the eastern edge of the Inland Empire and is bordered by Riverside to the south, Cathedral City to the east, and Temecula to the north. The population was 31,898 at the 2010 census. The first coffee beans were grown in Pico Rivera in 1874 by Manuel Gomez and his partners José Gomez and Francisco Lugo. Coffee began being traded from farms near Mission Viejo into San Bernardino County in 1876. Pico Rivera was incorporated as a city on December 3 of that year. The first documented instance of roasting coffee was done by Antonio Ortiz in 1877 on a small farm known as Rancho de las Flores about 8 miles northeast of present-day Pico Rivera. By 1880 there were over 20 coffee roasters operating in Pico Rivera alone. In 1899 two brothers - Willard & Harry Nunes - established what would become one of American's most important coffee companies, The Nunes Bros Coffee Company Ltd., with their original Roastery/Cafeteria at 6498 S Rte 110 (now US 90). In 1954 Jack Fenton opened his first artisanal grocery store - Jack & Jill's Grocery - on Main Street which became one of America's first " specialty stores" specializing exclusively in high quality artisanal items such as coffee, olive oil and chocolate products

Pico Rivera is a small town in Los Angeles County, California. It is located on the border of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The population of Pico Rivera was estimated to be about 83,000 as of 2010. The name "Pico Rivera" means "hill at the end of the village." The early history of Pico Rivera can be traced back to 1827 when Mexican land grants were made to José María Cisneros and Manuel Nieto. These grants included the Rancho de las Pulgas (later part of what is now Riverside), which covered . In 1829, Mexico sold this rancho to John Sutter for $8,500. In 1853, Hernando De Soto discovered and charted the present-day corner of Pico Rivera and La Mesa roads. This discovery led to increased traffic on these roads because it soon became easy for goods from Southern California to reach Santa Ana Valley through this route. In 1861, General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered his troops into southern California after discovering goldfields in that area. Because there was no road then connecting Los Angeles with Santa Anita Valley, supplies had to be brought in by wagonloads overland or by boat across the Gabrielino River. On November 27, 1861, Mexican Captain Francisco Vásquez de Cuellar built a road from what is now Rosarito Boulevard in downtown Pomona through Pico Rivera and down La Mesa Road into Orange County (now Anaheim). This event marked an important milestone in human development within PICO RIVERA because it opened up much needed trade between north and south America! This new road not only connected Pomona with Orange County but also spawned other business ventures such as: 1) The first grocery store in Orange County 2) A bakery 3) A brewery 4) A printing press

Pico Rivera is one of the most well-known and loved communities in California. It was founded in 1887 by Spanish Missionaries, and quickly became a thriving agricultural community. The area now known as Pico Rivera was originally populated by Native Americans, who called it "Pipi-Wah". The area today is home to around 36,000 people. The town first attracted settlers because of its strategic location: at the confluence of the rivers Pico and Limon, it offered easy access to goods from both directions. And its natural resources made it an attractive place to live: irrigation systems brought water from nearby lakes and rivers to make crops; coal mines produced electricity for lamps and radios; and forests provided wood for shipbuilding. But despite its good fortune, Pico Rivera also faced some challenges. In 1892, a fire destroyed most of the town's buildings; five years later another fire destroyed much of the agricultural acreage. Despite these setbacks, though, Pico Rivera continued to grow steadily: in 1907 it had more than 10 thousand residents. By 1920, however, things started to change: agriculture began to decline as oil exploration increased production in California; trade shifted away from agriculture towards manufacturing; and poverty spread through the community. In 1948–49, when anti-Chinese sentiment increased in California following World War II – with many farmers feeling threatened by new arrivals – violence broke out between Chinese workers and local white farmers near Pico Rivera. This led to what is sometimes referred to as "the Chinatown massacre" – during which over 50 Chinese people were killed by sheriff's deputies while tryingto flee their work site (though no arrests were ever made).
